Meaning of Percent

The term "percent" comes from the Latin phrase "per centum," which means "by the
hundred." It is a way to express a number as a fraction of 100. The symbol for percent is "%".
For example, 50 percent (50%) means 50 out of 100 or 50/100, which can be simplified to
0.5.

Meaning of Percentage

"Percentage" is a term used to describe the relationship between two numbers in terms of
100. It refers to the rate, number, or amount in each hundred. For example, if 30 students out
of 100 are girls, the percentage of girls is 30%.

Difference Between Percent and Percentage

While "percent" and "percentage" are closely related and often used interchangeably, they
have slight differences.

2. Multiply by 100: Multiply the number or fraction by 100 to get the percent value.
3. Add the Percent Symbol (%): After converting the number, add the percent symbol
(%) to express it as a percent.
