Present Perfect Simple and Present Perfect Continuous
The present perfect always shows a connection between the past and the
present.
We use present perfect simple when we talk about a finished action (or actions)
that happened in time ‘up-to-now’. We don’t say when exactly it happened.
e.g. I’ve bought him a nice jacket.
We usually use present perfect continuous when we talk about an unfinished
action (or actions) that started in the past and continues now.
e.g. I’ve been learning English since 2008. (I’m still learning English.)
We usually use present perfect simple when we talk about an unfinished state
that started in the past and continues now.
e.g. I’ve known Tim for ages. (I still know Tim.)
