Virtual Interview Guide
Virtual Interview Guide
Guide
Overview
Goodwill Industries of Middle TN aspires to provide candidates an optimal candidate experience. Part of that
is by connecting with candidates virtually to share information about our openings in the comfort of their own
home. Our team will set up a 20-30 minute interview with you to discuss available positions. These
interactions allow you to have a casual conversation about your skills and experience and what they are
looking for. This document will help set you up for success to meet our hiring teams!
We are a Google Business and use Google Meet when we connect as teams, meet with community
partners, and interview candidates. This will be sent to you via email by the hiring team in the calendar
invite. For more information about this system, please go to this link for instructions and tips.
Below are some additional items we ask you to help you have a great interview:
Clothing
We recommend that you treat these interactions like an in-person interview and encourage you to wear
business casual attire for your virtual interview. If you are meeting with a senior leaver (director or above) feel
free to dress up more. You want to be sure you are comfortable and appear professional.
Equipment
It is so important to ensure your camera is in a fixed location. If you are using a laptop, you should
have your bases covered. However, if you don't have access to that technology your phone works great
too! Below are a few other items to keep in mind:
't!
Don
Do! - Hold the device in your hand
- Position the phone on a stand/ mount - Interview while driving
- Check the equipment ahead of time - Call in to a virtual interview
- Do a test run an hour prior - Walk around or move too much
Location
Unlike a traditional interview you get to decide where the interview happens. We recommend you pick a place that is
quiet and comfortable. It is very important you pick a spot that will allow you to focus on your interview. Find a
location where you can meet with limited distractions.
Do! 't!
Don
- Sit at a table or desk - Interview while driving/riding in a car
- Set up the interview space an hour before - Walk around
- Find/make a quiet space -Sit in a rocking chair
- Eliminate anything that may cause distractions
Lighting
In a virtual interview lighting is very important. We don't typically think about this in traditional interviews, but
in a virtual setting you want to: be in a room with a lot of light, facing a window or other light source (i.e. a
lamp). Natural light is always best so a patio table is also an option. This will ensure the interviewer can see
you and can focus on their interaction with you.
