1.0 SCOPE

 This Method statement outlines and provides the guidelines to be


followed for rubble stone soling in relation with GE Diesel Locomotive
Project, Marhowra, Bihar, India.

 This work will follow all requirements, specifications, relevant codes or


any other governing regulatory agency or body after getting employer’s
approval.

2.0 PURPOSE

 The purpose of this document is to execute rubble stone soiling work as


per standard specification/guide line and to meet the process, quality,
safety as per best industry practices and customer satisfaction. The
prime purpose for rubble soiling is to enhance the load bearing capacity
of soil base/top strata.

4.0 ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:


 Project In charge: He shall be responsible to guide and give direction to the
entire site team/vendor to execute the job as mentioned in this WMS.

 Construction Manager: He shall be responsible to arrange & provide required


resources to execute the job. Furthermore, he will ensure the implementation of
this method statement during work execution.

 Planning Engineer: Required Schedule, resources shall be well planned in

consultation with project manager.

 QA/QC Engineer: He shall be responsible to inspect and perform test as per ITP

& MTP. Any observation/deviation shall be captured and communicated to

construction manager for corrective as well as preventive action.

 Site Engineer: He shall be responsible to perform the job accordingly to the WMS

and daily job schedule. He is also responsible to ensure safety, quality and other

requirements applicable for the job.

 Safety Engineer: He shall be responsible to ensure safety prior to

commencement of job at site. Adequate no’s of Safety officer shall be deployed by

him for safety supervision or as per site requirements.

5.0 MATERIALS, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENTS


Following materials & tools are to be used as per requirements while working;

 Locally available stone ( Size varies from 150-200mm)

 Stone aggregate/chips for packing

 Fine sand/River sand for filling

 Rammer for compaction

 Water

 Peg required for marking

 Measuring tape

 Auto level or equivalent

6.0 Work Procedure:


 Surface, over which the rubble stone soiling should be laid, is clear of all
loose materials and free from debris.
 The surface should be leveled and compacted to create stable and even
surface.
 To ensure satisfactory compaction, field density test to be performed.
 Only after achieving 95% compaction, further work for soling shall be
carried out.
 Over the prepared surface, the stone should be set as closely as
possible and well packed and firmly set.
 The stones should be of full height and should be laid so as to have
their bases of the largest area resting on the sub-grade.
 Soling should be laid in one layer of 230mm depth or specified
thickness of soling with a tolerance of 25mm.
 After packing the stones properly in position, the interstices between
them should be carefully filled with stone chips/aggregate to obtain a
bard, compact surface.
 Spreading of loose stone chips/aggregate is prohibited.
 The entire surface should be examined for any protrusions and the
same should be knocked off by a hammer and all interstices should be
filled with river sand/crusher dust.
 The surfaces should then be watered and consolidated with heavy

wooden tampers /log-rammers.

 SPCPL Site Engineer and Safety Supervisor shall carry out the safety
site inspections to ensure that safety requirements laid out in the safe
work plan are followed before, during and after the work. SPCPL Safety
Engineer / Supervisor shall review HSE Plan and secure Work
 Work will be started only after getting the work permit from the
concerned department of the project. All equipment’s will have access
in site premise after inspection and verification of documents as well as
physical check by HSE Department.
 Indicative barricading shall be done for the location.
 Required PPE’s shall be provided to the workforce involved for
rectification work.
