Learning Episode 13: Utilizing Applications for Teaching and Learning

Apps that I already know/have recently explored. How can I utilize this in teaching-learning?

PPT / Google Slides These can be used in presenting the lesson, formative
assessments, activities, or tests. There are various
templates and formats that can be found and used in
these apps.

Canva Similar to the PPT and Google Slides, Canva offers


templates but not only for powerpoints. There are
also templates for posters, infographics, and more
which can all be utilized for presenting different
learning contents. This app can also be used to create
worksheets and activities.

Youtube There are educational videos available in this


application which can be utilized as supplements in
the teaching-learning process. Appropriate videos
found in this app can be shown in the classroom for
the discussion.

Jamboard This can be utilized for online collaborative works for


assessments and other activities.

Google Classroom For online learning set-ups, this application can be


utilized for an easy and accessible sharing of
files/documents, tasks, announcements and the likes.

already very many available and accessible materials and applications which we can use as a tool and
supplement for the teaching-learning process. With this, selecting and using apps for teaching and learning is
a lot easier for me, especially that I am practiced with technological skills.

assisted.
Since I was assigned to facilitate the formative assessments, on the second part, I used my
tablet and the app, Samsung Notes. The night before, I typed the 15-item activity with blanks for their
answers. When it was time for their sharing of answers/recitation, I asked for volunteers to write
their answers on the tablet.
ANALYZE

1. What worked well during the activity using apps?


What worked well is the students’ ability to engage with the use of technology and the
application. Since the students can write on the Samsung Notes, they were very enthusiastic about the
assessment task.

2. What part can be improved?


Since the students were excited to participate, it made noise and chaos in the class. Also, there
should be more time for similar activities since not all students are familiar with the application used.

3. What would you have done differently? What would I change? What will make it better next time?
I think that I should have made the font size bigger so that there would be more space for
writing. I have limited them to write small entries since the space is limited.

4. How does this connect with what you know about selecting and using apps?

1. How ready am I in organizing and using apps in the teaching-learning process?


With the pedagogy wheel model on the FS2 Book, I have more knowledge on the available
applications that can help target lessons or concepts. With the technological skills I have, I think that
I am well-equipped in organizing and using apps in the teaching-learning process.

2. What do I still need to learn in order to use apps in teaching effectively?


I still need to familiarize myself with the other applications which can be used for the
teaching-learning process as well as their features so that I can make teaching effective and
meaningful.
3. What can I do to learn more about and practice the use of educational apps?
With the use of my own gadgets, I can try different applications as I explore. I can also read
reviews or watch video tutorials available on the internet.

1. What problematic situation/challenge/area of improvement prevailed in using the apps?

One challenge I observed and experienced in using the application is the students’ lack of
knowledge and understanding on technology use. Some of the students were not really participative,
saying that they do not know how to access or use the application. Yes, many children have and use
their own gadgets and are technologically literate. However, there are still some who lack this aspect
of literacy which hinders their learning and motivation to participate.

ADDIE Model can be connected to this problem. This model is used in designing an
instruction with the integration of technology. ADDIE stands for the steps which are Analysis, Design,
Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. With the presence of this challenge with the
childrens’ lack of digital literacy, this model will help ensure the proper and appropriate integration of
technology in the classrooms where every learner is led to effective learning.

2. What do I hope to achieve to address the challenge/are of improvement? What change do I want to
achieve?

I hope to achieve in-depth knowledge on digital literacy so I can bring and share my learnings
to my future students. I want to be able to make a change in the perspective of people that technology
is harmful in the childrens’ learning.

For now, I can study more about the basics of digital literacy which I can pass on to children.
Through watching videos or attending seminars regarding this concept, I will be a step closer to
improving this problem/challenge.
