INTRODUTION
A seven segment display is an electronic display device used to
display numerical digits and some alphabets. It consists of seven
individual segments arranged in a figure eight shape. Each segment
scan be lit up independently to form various numbers and letters .

OBJECTIVES
1.To implement a four-digit hex to 7 segment decoder using a
breadboard.

2.To familiarize with the seven segments displays.

EQUIPMENTS
1.Common anode seven segment display

2.Breadboard

3.Resistors

4.Power supply

5.Wires

BACKGROUND
A seven segment is made up of 7 LEDS arranged in a specific way to
form the number “8’.The segments are labeled from a to g ,which can
be independently turned on or off to display numbers. Common anode
seven segment display :in this configuration, all the anodes of the
LEDS are connected together to a positive supply voltage. To turn on a
segment the corresponding cathode is connected to ground. The
voltage typically required to power a seven-segments display is about
5v DC. Each segment typically requires a forward voltage of about 1.5
v to 2.2v seven segments display have wide usage in many electronic
applications:

1. Watches
2. Calculators
3. Meters
4. Home appliances

PROCEDURE
1.Identify the pins of the seven segment display, the common anode is
typically connected to the power supply.

2.Insert the seven segment display on the breadboard, ensure that the
pins are properly spaced an visible for connections

3.Connect the common anode pin to power

4.Connect resistors to the segment pins

5. complete the power supply connections

OBSERVATIONS
The seven segments display works by controlling individual segments
of the display. Each segment is a LED and can be either off or on
depending on the applied voltage. The display works by sending
electrical signals through the control lines that correspond to each
segment of the display.
They are simple to use because the does not require complex
hardware. They have low power consumption compared to other
display types. Due to their compact sizes are suitable for embedded
systems and portable devices. However, they have limited display
capabilities, they are not suitable for displaying complex characters or
graphics. Visibility issues; the display ca become hard to read from
certain angles or in certain lighting conditions.

CONCLUSION
The seven segment display is a fundamental component in modern
electronics, widely used for displaying numerical values and certain
alphabetical characters in digital devices with simple operation an low
power requirements, seven segments display are highly effective in
applications such as in calculators and meters .However ,their limited
capabilities makes them unsuitable for applications requiring detailed
graphical information. By understanding its types ,working, principles
and applications engineers can utilize seven segments display
effectively for a range of projects and products.
