Determine the magnitude of the resultant of the two forces of magnitude 12 N and 9

N acting at a point, if the angle between the two forces is 30°.


Find the magnitude of two equal forces acting at a point with an angle of 60°
between them, if the resultant is equal to 30 × √ 3 N.
The resultant of two forces when they act at right angles is 10 N, whereas when they
act at an angle of 60° the resultants is 148. Determine the magnitude of the two
forces.
Three forces of magnitude 30 kN, 10 kN and 15 kN are acting at a point O. The

A force of 50 N is acting at a point A as shown in Fig. 3.21. Determine the moment of

Three like parallel forces 20 N, 40 N and 60 N are acting at points A, B and C


respectively on a straight-line ABC. The distances are AB = 3 m and BC = 4 m. Find

A dam is subjected to three forces; 50 kN force on the upstream vertical face AB, 30
N force on the downstream inclined face and its own weight 120 kN. Determine the
single equivalent force and locate its point of intersection with the base AC,
assuming all the forces to lie in the same plane.

An exercise machine is designed to be a lightweight cart on an inclined ramp on


which a lady may lie and hold herself with two parallel strings, which are attached to
her cart through frictionless pulleys. If the lady weighing 700 N is able to pull and
keep the strings horizontal while the ramp is inclined at 15°, determine the force she
is exerting by each hand. Find also the reaction of the ramp on the cart.
A derrick crane has ball-and-socket joints at A, B, C and D as shown. Determine the
forces in links AB, BD and CD when it is supporting a dead load of 1000 kN.

A circular roller of weight 1000 N and radius 20 cm hangs by a tie rod AB = 40 cm
and rests against a smooth vertical wall at C as shown. Determine the tension in the
tie rod and reaction RC at point C.

A smooth circular cylinder of weight 1000 N and radius 10 cm rests in a right-angled


groove whose sides are inclined at an angle of 30° and 60° to the horizontal as
shown. Determine the reaction RA and RC at the points of contact.

Two identical rollers, each of weight 50 N, are supported by an inclined plane and a
vertical wall as shown. Find the reactions at the points of supports A, B and C.
Assume all the surfaces to be smooth.
Two spheres, each of weight 50 N and of radius 10 cm rest in a horizontal channel of
width 36 cm as shown. Find the reactions on the points of contact A, B and C.
