Lesson Plan for Mathematics (GRADE 1 )

I. Objectives: At the end of 20 minute’s discussion;


a. Know and understand the concept of subtraction.
b. Perform the simple subtraction;
c. Appreciate the importance of subtraction.

II. Subject Matter :


Topic : Subtract quantities up to 10 using concrete objects
Materials: Visual aid, white board

III. Procedure

Preparation:

A. Preliminary Activities:
 Good morning class! - Good morning teacher!
 Let us Pray:
In the name of the Father, and of the
Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Our Father, Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come,
Thy Will be done, On earth as it is in Heaven.

-Give us this day, our daily bread, And forgive us


our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass
against us. And lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from evil amen.

B. Lesson Proper:
a. Review
 Okay! Class, do you still remember
your lesson about adding - Yes, Teacher!
numbers?
 Okay, let’s try this. We will add the 5
apples and 5 mangoes. Look at the
pictures. Can you add these fruits using
the fingers in your hand? - Yes, Teacher!
 How many apples are there in the picture?
Let’s count. - (Start Counting)
 So, how many apples are there? 5 Apples Teacher!
 Very good! How about the mangoes?
Okay let’s s count again the mangoes. - (Start Counting)
 How many mangoes are there?
Very good! - 5 Mangoes Teacher!
 Now we will add the 5 apples and 5
mangoes. - (Start Adding)
 How many?
 Very good! Clap your hands! - 10 Teacher!

B. Motivation :

 I have some picture as you see we going


have a game. - GAME !

C. Discussion:

 The reason why I want you play the game


because our lesson for the day is all about
subtraction.
 Can anyone read what is meaning of
subtraction. - ( Pupil rise their right hand)
 Yes - When you take away one number from
another to get a difference.
 That is correct.

 Example in the picture there are 4 beach


balls but one of them have an X so how
many beach balls are left.
- 3!

 Every Good
 In writing subtraction, we write the symbol
(-) which we called ‘minus’ sign.
 Subtraction means to take
 away from a group or a number of things.
When we subtract, the number of things in
the group reduces or become less.
 The Minuend
The minuend in the subtraction sentence is the
starting amount from which other amounts are
taken away.
 The Subtrahend
This the number being taken away from the
starting amount
 The Difference
In a subtraction sentence, the difference is the
answer or result of the operation.
