Project Package

General direction for the candidate

1. Before start the project, please take at least 15 minutes to read all contents of the project.

2. Make sure that you have been given all the necessary tools, equipment and information, you
need to perform the projects.

3. This Project contains Ten Tasks and further each task is divided in to sub activities. The
combination of all the activities will form the total percent of your result (100%).

4. For the purpose of your time management for each task maximum time is suggested, there for
manage your time accordingly.

Project Information

Given the necessary tools, equipment and information, the candidate is expected to perform the
following projects. The assessor should ask oral questions on which she/he is not satisfied by the
candidate’s performance.

Project: Server-Client Based Network Management System

ADAMA PTC needs to implement new installation and network configuration to manage and
automate their current manual system. The College has two branches currently in Adama City.
Accordingly, The Collage wishes to control all activities of every Student using the new system
which will be going to implement now. Hence, the Collage has a central database server and one
client computer in each branch to support the student as their clients. Consequently the College
executes the activities like installing of application software’s, recording of the Students data and
remotely helps the Students through college intranet in the two branches. And also the college
has numerous departments which have many Employees with different profession to support the
staffs as per requests. Assume, you are assigned as a Network Manager for that College and you
are responsible for installing NOS and OS, Configuring Domain Controller, Creating and
Maintaining Active Directory Objects, Assigning Automate IP Address and Managing Network
Resources including the above activities obviously.

Based on the above scenarios perform the following tasks.

Task1. Install Windows Server and Operating system

Total time for this task: 00:40 Minutes

Activity 1. Format and create two partitions on your server computer as of 70% and 30% Local
Disk C and Local Disk D respectively.

Activity 2. Install Windows Server 2008 R2 on Local Disk C.

Activity 3. Give appropriate password that meet domain admin password policy.

Activity 4. Check and Install network driver on server computer.

Task 2. Install application software

Total time for this task: 00:20 Minutes

Activity 1. Customize and install only MS-Word 2010, MS-Access 2010, MS-PowerPoint and
MS-Excel 2010 on Server Computer.

Activity 2. Create folder on server computer desktop by your fathers’ name.

Task 3. Calculate the Students Grade based on the given scenarios on MS Excel.

Scenario:

The Employee Table has (Emp_ID, Emp_Name, Emp_Sex, Emp_Age, Emp_Salary),

Department Table have (Dept_ID, Dept_Name, Dept_City, Dept_Branch,
Dept_Distance) and Service Table have (Service_ID, Service_Name, Service_Fee,
Service_Tool, Service_Schedule).

Hints: The departments have many Employees and provide different services regarding
to their job rolls.

Activity1. Create Database name by Adama PTC Database on Server desktop under the
folder created by your father’s name.

Activity 2. Create the appropriate three tables.

Activity 3. Insert five row data into each table.

Activity 4. Create appropriate relationships between them.

Scenario:

Obang is an IT technician in small cyber cafe. The owner of the cyber cafe has two
computers connected with each other through cross over cable and a printer connected to
one computer locally. Each computer has extra two monitors connected to each other by
VGA splitter for other customers to use internet service individually. But they get default
ip address from ethio-telecom. Always the complaint arises on Tufa from customer and
cyber cafe owner due to ip conflict cases. It needs to identify and resolve network
problems mainly resolve ip conflict, total number of users to cyber cafe at a time.

using the Cluster.org as a Fully Qualify Domain Name (FQDN).

Activity 3. Create forward lookup zones for the DNS.

Activity 4. Select DNS server zone type 2 Primary zones and active storage.

Activity 5. Select the appropriate active directory replication scope.

Activity 6. Create the new zone name by mycluster.org.
