Overall Equipment E ectiveness (O.E.

E) is a key performance indicator used in

manufacturing industries to measure the e ectiveness and e iciency of equipment and
machines. O.E.E. aims to measure the percentage of the machine or equipment's
designed capacity being utilized.
OEE depends on three main factors:
1. Availability:
 This measures how much of the total available time the equipment is actually
running.
 Availability decreases if the machine experiences breakdowns, maintenance, or
other delays.
 It is calculated by dividing operating time (available time) by total time (planned
production time).
 Availability (%) = (Operating Time / Planned Production Time) × 100
2. Performance:
 This measures the speed at which the equipment is produced. In other words, it
shows the di erence between the ideal and actual production rates.
 If the machine is running at its designated speed, performance will be 100%.
 Performance (%) = (Actual Production Rate / Ideal Production Rate) × 100
3. Quality:
 This measures how many products meet the quality standards and how many
are defective, i.e., how many products are A-grade and how many are first-hand
B-grade.
 Quality (%) = (A-Grade Packed Production / Total Packed Production) × 100
Formula for OEE:

Example:
 If a machine has an availability of 90%, performance of 85%, and quality of 95%, the
OEE would be:
OEE=90%×85%×95%=72.45%
A high O.E.E percentage indicates that the machine or equipment is operating close to its
designed capacity, while a low O.E.E indicates that improvements are needed. O.E.E is
used to drive improvements in production, reduce costs, and optimize resource usage.
