Drafting Committee of the Constitution of India Notes
The constitution of India is the supreme law of India. The document lays down the
framework determining the fundamental political code, structure, procedure,
powers and duties of the government’s institutions. It also states the fundamental
rights, principals and the duties of the citizens.
In fact, it is the longest constitution in the world.
The constitution of India was adopted on November 26, 1949, and came into effect
from January 26, 1950. It replaced the Government of India Act, 1935 as the
country's fundamental governing document, and the Dominion of India became the
Republic of India.
They were:
1. Dr B R Ambedkar (Chairman)
2. N Gopalaswamy Ayyangar
3. Alladi Krishnaswamy Ayyar
4. Dr K M Munshi
5. Syed Mohammad Saadullah
6. B Madhava Rau (He replaced B L Mitter who resigned due to ill-health)
7. T T Krishnamachari (He replaced D P Khaitan who died in 1948)
Conclusion
On November 26, 1949, the constitution was completed, and several clauses
dealing to citizenship, elections, a provisional parliament, and interim and
transitional laws went into effect immediately.
The rest of the constitution took effect on January 26, 1950.
