Pile Load Methodology (By Sand)
Pile Load Methodology (By Sand)
The testing of Pile will be carried out according to the Indian Standard I.S:2911 (Part-4) -2019. In
accordance with the relevant provision of the Indian standard I.S:2911 (Part-4) -2019, the sate load on a
single working pile in the load test shall be least of Two thirds of the Final load at which the total
displacement attains a value of 12mm for less than & 600mm dia & 18mm for above 600mm dia of pile
unless otherwise required in given. The safe load should be corresponding to the stated total
displacement permissible.
LIST OF EQUIPMENT REQUIRED FOR THE VERTICAL PILE LOAD TEST:
1. Hydraulic Jack.
2. Hydraulic Pump.
3. Pressure gauge (Calibrated).
4. 50mm. dial gauge of accuracy 0.01mm. 4nos. (Calibrated)
5. Datum Bar for resting for dial gauge.
6. Round M.S. Bearing plate for resting of Jack.(25mm. thick)
SAFETY PRECAUTION:
1. Safety Helmet.
2. Safety Shoes.
3. Safety Gloves.
4. Safety Glass.
KANTLEDG:
The kentledge will consist of sandbags stacked over a platform built up rolled steel beams and
plates resting over them. The platform will rest over sandbags supports clear of the test pile. Care will be
taken in the placement on the kentledge on the platform in order to ensure that the centre of gravity
line of the total load mass is practicable with the axis of the pile.

METHODOLOGY OF TEST:
It is proposed to conduct the load test on the test pile by the vertical compression loads on the
pile top by means of a Hydraulic Jack reacting against a platform supporting the kentledge and the
settlement will be recorded by suitable positioned by 4 dial gauges. The load test will be carried for a
maximum load at 2.5 times the design load for Initial Test of pile & 1.5 times the design load for working
pile.
OBSERVATIONS:
The load application and settlement observations will be made at the pile top. Settlement will
be recorded using four dial gauges with a least of 0.01mm and travel of 50mm. The dial gauges will be
positioned at an equal distance around the piles and will be held by datum bars resting on distance of
3D (Minimum of 2.0 mtr) from the edge of the pile.
The test will be carried out by applying a series of vertical downward incremental loads; each
increment being about 20% of the design load on the pile. The pressure will be read from the pressure
gauge attached to the hydraulic pump.
At each stage of loading the actual gauge pressure multiplied by the total ram area of Jack will
be the applied load. At each stage the loading will be maintained till such time rate of movement of pile
head is not more than 0.2mm in the first one hour or maximum of 2 hours. Time and settlement
observation will be recorded at about 15 to 30 minutes interval during the period when the applied load
is constant.
When the loading has reached the test load level it will be maintained for a period of 24 Hours
then loading will be brought to zero gradually in stages by releasing the jacking pressure.
The load displacement and time will be recorded along with information about the test pile. A
load displacement curve will from an essential part of the presentation.
