2 SAFETY
To ensure your safety and the safety of those around you, it is important that you read,
understand, and follow ALL the safety precautions relative to a particular task. In particular it
is important to read and understand any risk assessed method statements made at the time
of the safety survey.
Related safety instructions:
– AM-01.03.002, Take 5 - Electrical safety when working on elevators
– AM-01.03.001, Preventing falls from height when working on elevators, escalators and
building doors
– AM-01.03.004, ReNova door modernization
– AM-01.03.010, Safe working in elevator shaft and machine room areas
– Site safety audit
Take time to familiarize yourself with the elevator. This is particularly important when working
on other manufacturer’s equipment where the level of training and information available may
vary and circuit diagrams are in an unfamiliar style.
Ensure you have adequate information to do the work and fully understand all the
possible effects of your actions.
- IF IN DOUBT - ASK.
Talk to your supervisor if you have any doubts about the working method or safety related
issues.
Any local variations to the method must be supported by a local method statement and risk
assessment.
– Agree the appropriate safety measures with the building owner or his representative.
– Report any defects or other dangerous conditions to your supervisor.
– Ensure that ALL DOORS (machine room, pit, access and inspection doors) are locked at
all times when unoccupied by authorized personnel.
– Cover any unused holes in the machine room floor with steel plates.
– Install temporary screens in common elevator shafts and machine rooms, where adjacent
elevators are running and there is no dividing screen.
– Liaise with the building owner or his representative in cases where there are elevator
groups where adjacent elevators are running and passenger traffic in the lobby area may
interfere with your work. Ensure that all work areas are protected with barriers and that
access routes for other building users are safe.
– If you suspect that hazardous materials are present, stop the work. Inform your supervisor
who will arrange for a specialist to check the installation. Disposal of hazardous material is
always a specialist’s job. Never attempt to do this yourself.
– When using cleaning fluids and other solvents, ensure that the area is well ventilated and
that fumes cannot become a nuisance or hazard to other building users. Use only
approved cleaning fluids and follow the manufacturers instructions.
Read carefully the electrical working safety instructions in the corresponding elevator level
manual to ensure the correct switching off and locking methods for each elevator.
Pay special attention when working on the car roof if there are powered parts in your working
area.
– Refer to AM-01.03.002, Take 5 Electrical Safety When Working on Elevators.
– Separate the electrical parts of the drive system from the main network during
maintenance operations. Use the main supply switch, which must be locked to the open
position.
– Ensure that high voltage parts do not cause a danger to other building users. Safety must
be ensured with fences or additional guarding depending on site conditions if protection
shields are removed and main power is ON.
– Use additional fences or guarding, when there is a danger that outsiders enter working
zone or there are parts or tools causing risks of tripping on the landing.
Safety gloves, overalls, safety shoes with ankle protection, safety helmet, safety goggles,
dust mask, hearing protection and fall protection equipment are provided for your personal
protection. USE THEM AS REQUIRED.
– Ensure that tools and other equipment are in a serviceable condition. Take special care to
check the condition of electric cables, plugs and sockets.
– Whenever there is a possibility of falling any distance and there is a risk of injury an
adequate fall prevention system must be used. Refer to AM-01.03.001 Preventing falls
from height when working on elevators, escalators and building doors.
– Lock and tag all power supplies and verify that they are safely de-energized, before
starting any electrical work.
– Avoid working in a building that is otherwise unoccupied. If you are working alone, ensure
that a responsible person periodically monitors your welfare.
– Before riding on the car roof, check that required safety spaces are available and the
inspection drive and stop buttons operate correctly. If safety spaces are missing take
necessary actions to increase these for example, using counterweight props. If props are
used to maintain safety space, the car cannot run on normal drive mode, the inspection
drive limit switch (68:U) must be lowered and it is recommended to fit polyurethane
buffers.
– Ensure that the car roof is strong enough to support the weight of two men and their tools.
If necessary, for example if the door operator is removed, provide additional support steel.
Refer to local engineering support centre.
– If buffers are to be replaced, do this before riding on the car roof.
– Do not work under suspended loads or under equipment you are dismantling.
– Do not work at different levels in the same elevator shaft. When work is carried out in
multiple elevator shafts you should keep the cars at the same working levels.
– Use correct manual lifting techniques. Use hoists for all heavy components.
The words WARNING and CAUTION are used to highlight possible hazardous situations to
persons or equipment as follows:
NOTE: Do not remove fences before gaps between the wall and frame are sealed.

CAUTION: Door operators which are delivered directly from the factory are pre-adjusted:
the learning phase is already completed and the closing force potentiometer has been
adjusted.
NOTE: At power up in normal drive mode, if the door is not at the reference switch (close
end position) it will move at low speed until the close end position is found.
After finding the reference switch (close end position) the door will move at normal speed.

Figure 1. Expanded I/O board used in modernization (located on car roof or in machine room).
NOTE: The maximum kinetic energy shall not exceed 10J. Top and nudging speeds are
different with asia curve(S1/6 ON) or standard curve (S1/6 OFF). Use the following tables
to identify the maximum allowed speed in relation to the door mass (landing door + car
door).
NOTE: Setting the wrong coupler width increases the mechanical stress for the coupler
and the door significantly. Running the door for long periods with the wrong setting may
wear out components. Special attention should be used when glass doors are used.
The type of railing can be read from the identification label (a) on the operator (format of the
sticker is: AMDCx - Rx). The railing type can be used together with Table 4 to identify the
correct dip-switch setting.
6 TROUBLESHOOTING
CAUTION: Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can damage the drive board. For
more information on working with ESD sensitive devices, see AS-12.02.001.
CAUTION: When making control signal voltage measurements, use terminal EXT GND
on the door electronic assembly as the reference. This terminal must be connected to the
elevator control signal ground (-/24 V for TMS or EPB, LCECCB and so on).
If the door operator is not behaving as expected it is recommended to do the following steps:
1. Use the STATE LED indications to diagnose a possible fault. See chapter 6.2.
2. Reset the PCB and re-do the learning. See chapter 6.3.
3. If the fault persists, consult chapters 6.4 to 6.6.
NOTE: Although other door and elevator components are considered in this analysis, this
troubleshooting section is mainly focused on the door drive.
1. Position the door operator in a suitable working height when standing on the landing.
2. Connect the ESD wrist strap to the earthing point.
3. Remove pcb cover.
4. Move the door using test drive buttons.
The flashing STATE LED indicates an error code. Count the number of flashes and see the
reason for the fault in the table. There is a pause between one sequence of flashes and the
following.
NOTE: Detailed instructions for motor and PCB replacement can be found in the AS-
03.12.036, Maintenance instruction for AMD doors.
Execute the following steps to reset the board and perform a new learning:
1. Check that the elevator is in inspection mode and that the doors are in close end position.
2. Set dip switches to correct position.
3. Press the learn button and hold it for a few seconds.
4. Press and hold the close button to complete the coupler movement.
5. When the door is fully closed, hold the close button still for 2 seconds before releasing it.
6. Press and hold the open button.
7. When the door is fully opened, hold the open button still for 2 seconds before releasing it
8. Repeat the open and close cycle 2 - 3 times (steps 4-7) until the state LED switches OFF.
9. Switch the elevator to normal drive mode and check the door behavior.
7 Check that there is no high friction if the Board has supervision for motor temper-

reached, the board will operate with
reduced performance.
8 Check if the closing force is too low (or See section 4.5, Adjusting closing force.
friction too high). Try turning the
CLOSE FORCE potentiometer slightly Closing force must not exceed 150 N.
clockwise to increase the force.
9 Switch inspection drive ON from car Inspection drive usage changes the test
roof. drive button behavior.
NOTE: To reopen the door, the maintenance access / control panel must receive either a
REOPEN REQUEST signal from the door electronics or from an independently wired
protective device (for example, photocell or curtain of light and so on). In addition, the
elevator system must remove the CLOSE command and activate the OPEN command.
2 Check curtain of light (COL) circuit oper- COL input (PC1 IN) and output LED (PC
