**** You do need to purchase the College Algebra workbook V2.2 in the Bookstore.

Pre-requisite for Math 1021: You must have scored at least 430 on the Mathematics Placement
Test or have taken Math 0034 and earned at least a C- letter grade for this course.

Course Description: College Algebra is a study of linear, polynomial, rational, exponential, and
logarithmic functions, systems of equations, systems of inequalities and modeling with
functions.
Learning Objectives: The student will be able to:
 Analyze and perform operations with functions including linear, quadratic,
polynomial, rational, power, exponential, and logarithmic.
 Use these functions to create and interpret basic mathematical models within real
world applications
 Solve equations including linear, quadratic, rational, exponential, and logarithmic.
 Graph functions including linear, quadratic, rational, polynomial, exponential, and
logarithmic.
 Solve a system of linear equations.

Grading and Evaluation: Your grade will be computed as follows:

Homework…………………………………………..................................................40 points
MyMathLab…………………………………………..............................................160 points
Tests (3)…………………………………………………............................................300 points
Final Exam………………………………………………...........................................200 points
Grading Scale:
A 94-100% A- 90-93% B+ 87-89%

D 63-66% D- 60-62% F Below 60%

Calculator: You may use a calculator for this course.

MyMathLab: Problems will be assigned from MyMathLab. You will need an access code. When
you log into MyMathLab through our course on Blackboard, you enter the code to register and
proceed to the assignments. The code for our course is:
HSCRKC-DROLL-VETCH-BLOBS-POTTO-LIKES

Homework: 4 homework assignments will be distributed in class. These assignments will be

collected and graded. You will have one week to complete each one. They will not be accepted
late and they will only be distributed in class.

Attendance: It is extremely important for your success in this course to attend every class.
Attendance will be taken each class. You will receive one extra credit point for each class that
you attend. If you will be absent for a test, you must notify me in advance so we can schedule
the make-up.

Last day to Withdraw is Friday, November 15. You must withdraw online by the deadline!

Course Participation Verification: Because of federal-government provisions, UC must ask you

to show that you have participated in each course in which you have enrolled, to maintain your
eligibility to receive federal financial aid. When you access the Blackboard site for this course,
you will see a link at the top of the control panel at the left entitled “Attendance Verification”.
Clicking on this link will take you to a simple question: “What three actions will you take to
succeed in this course?” Answering this question will verify your participation in the class.

Academic Integrity Policy: The University Rules, including The Student Code of Conduct, and
other documented policies of the department, college, and university related to academic
integrity, will be enforced. Any violation of these regulations, including acts of plagiarism, or
cheating, will be dealt with on an individual basis according to the severity of the misconduct.

Special Needs Policy: Students with any special needs related to their participation in this
course, including identified visual, hearing, or physical impairment, a communication disorder,
and/or a specific learning disability that may influence their performance in this course, should
meet with the instructor as soon as possible to arrange for reasonable provisions to ensure an
equitable opportunity to meet all the requirements of this course. At the discretion of the
instructor, some accommodations may require prior approval of Disability Services.

Learning Assistance Center: Peer Tutoring is offered for this course by the Learning Assistance
Center (LAC). Tutoring sessions are designed to allow students to work one-on-one with a
qualified and trained peer tutor to address course content and study skills. Students may
schedule appointments online at www.uc.edu/learningcommons. The Learning Assistance
Center has moved to 2925 Campus Green Drive for the 2019-20 academic year. They are in
Suite 10.

Drop in Tutoring is offered for this course by the Math and Science Support Center (MASS) in
Suite 10 of 2925 Campus Green Drive. During specified times, students will be able to work
collaboratively with each other under the guidance of a tutor. No appointment is necessary for
these tutoring sessions, but there are a limited number of seats on a first come, first serve
basis. Check online or at the main desk of the MASS Center.

Supplemental Review Sessions – All MATH 1021 Students are invited to sign up for an
optional 12-week program of supplemental review sessions. (SRS) The time commitment is 1
hour and 20 minutes per week for 12 weeks. You will review essential prerequisite material,
work on problems, present solutions, and discuss and correct solutions under the guidance of
upperclassmen and graduate assistants through the Learning Assistance Center. If you choose
to sign up for SRS, then the sessions become compulsory for you
