She was born on June 27, 1880, in
Tuscumbia, Alabama. At a very young age,
Helen lost her ability to see and hear due to
an illness. This made her feel isolated and cut

Helen's strong spirit and the love of her family
made a big diSerence in her life.

When Helen was seven years old, Anne


Sullivan came into her life as a teacher and
friend. Anne patiently taught Helen how to
