3RD 33% BOARD MODULE EXAM
Class : XII (DRT-4) Marks : 25
Date : 28.11.2024 PHYSICS Duration : 1 hour

I. ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS : 𝟒 × 𝟐 = 𝟖𝑴

1. Explain the formation of the fringes due to diffraction at a single slit, when path
difference of light waves from the ends of the slit on reaching a point on the screen is
3
(a)  , and (b)
2
2. a) Draw graphs showing variation of photoelectric current with applied voltage for two
incident radiations of equal frequency and different intensities. Mark the graph for
the radiation of higher intensity
b) Name the phenomenon which shows the quantum nature of electromagnetic
radiation
3. The wavelength  of a photon is and the de-Broglie wavelength of an electron have
the same value. Show that energy of a photon is( 2 mc / h ) times the kinetic energy of
electron; where m, c and h have their usual meaning
4. Calculate the de-Broglie wavelength of the electron orbiting in the n = 2 state of
hydrogen atom
II. ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS: 𝟒 × 𝟑 = 𝟏𝟐𝑴
5. a) In Young’s double slit experiment, two slits are 1 mm apart and the screen is
placed 1m away from the slits. Calculate the fringe width when light of wavelength
500 nm is used.
b) What should be the width of each slit in order to obtain 10 maxima of the double
slit pattern within the central maximum of the single slit pattern?
6. Two harmonic waves of monochromatic light y1  a cos t and y2  a cos t    are
superimposed on each other. Show that maximum intensity in interfacerence pattern
is four times the intensity due to each slit. Hence write the conditions for
constructive and destructive interference in terms of the phase angle  .
7. State two important properties of proton which are used to write Einstein’s
photoelectric equation. Define (i) stopping potential and (ii) threshold frequency,
using Einstein’s equation and drawing necessary plot between relevant quantities
8. Sketch the graphs showing variation of stopping potential with frequency of incident
radiations for two photosensitive materials A and B having threshold frequencies
v A  vB
a) In which case is the shopping potential more and why?
b) Does the slope of the graph depend on the nature of the material used? Explain
III. ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS : 𝟏 × 𝟓 = 𝟓𝑴
9. a) Define a wavefront. Using Huygen’s principle, verify the law’s of reflection at a
plane surface.
b) In a single slit diffraction experiment, the width of the slit is made double the
original width. How does this affect the size and intensity of the central diffraction
band? Explain.
c) When a tiny circular obstacle is placed in the path of light from a distant source, a
bright spot is seen at the centre of the obstacle. Explain why?
