Outputting your Drawings in AutoCAD

Sheet Layout

Creating and modifying drawing layout tabs

Ribbon: View ---Viewports / Layout --- Layout Viewports

Command entry: layout

Enter layout option [Copy/Delete/New/Template/Rename/]

Note: Many of these options are available by right-clicking a layout tab name.

Step 1 Right click on layout tab and select from template

Or enter Layout in the command then enter template

Step 2 Open Sheet Set folder and select Architectural Metric
Step 3 Click open

Step 4 Select ISO A1 then click ok.

Step 5 Select ISO layout tab and Zoom into the Title Block area and double click on the text or border
line to open Enhanced Attribute Editor dialog box.

Step 6 Select Tag under Attribute and edit [Value] field


Step 7 Click ok when finished editing all tags. N.B. Create text style (Sheet Text) for additional text on
sheet in paper space. [Typical text height could be 4mm]

Step 8 Set Defpoints Layer current

Step 9 From the Viewports panel in Home Tab in AutoCAD 2010 click new icon and Named icon in
Layout tab, Layout Viewports panel in AutoCAD 2013 then select new Viewports tab in Dialog box and
select Two Vertical then click ok

Step 10 Click endpoint at top left of border and drag to lower right corner and click again
All drawing will appear in Viewports in Paper Space

Step 11 Double Click in the left viewport to switch to Model Space and zoom into floor plan.
Select plotscale of (1:50) from Viewports on the status bar to scale drawing
Step 12 Pan drawing to desired location on sheet and resize Viewport if necessary

Step 13 Select the viewport then right click, browse to Display Lock and choose Yes or click on
lock/unlock viewport icon on the status bar.

Renaming a Layout Tab

Step 1 Right click on Layout Tab and click on Rename or double click on layout tab then enter tab
name.
Step 2 Type in Name field e.g. [Floor plan and Elevation] then press enter.

Copying a Layout Tab

Step 1 Right click on Layout Tab and click on Move or Copy…


Step 2 Select layout you want to copy, check the box create a copy then click OK
Copied Layout will appear to the left of Layouts. If you do not provide a name, the new layout assumes the name
of the copied layout with an incremental number in parentheses. The new tab is inserted before the copied layout
tab.

Deleting a Layout Tab

Step 1 Right click on Layout Tab(s) and click on delete


Step 2 Click OK

Displaying broken Linetypes in a Viewport (For linetypes not scaled with annotation scale)

Step 1 Select Home Tab –Properties Panel then [other] under ByLayer Linetype control
Step 2 Click Show details

Step 3 Uncheck [Use paper units for scaling] then click ok

Step 4 Type [rea] to refresh viewports


Broken lines will now be displayed

([Shortcut command] – psltscale →enter →0 Enter)

Plotting your Drawing

Plotting from model view

Step 1: Click on plot

Step 2: In the plot model dialog box select:


 Printer name – Printer that is installed on the computer
 Paper size – Letter 8.5” x 11”
 What to plot, under plot area – Display, Extent, Limits or Window
 Fit to paper under plot scale
 Center the plot
 Monochrome under plot style table (pen assignments)

Step 3: Selecting What to Plot:-

To print a particular drawing from the model view, e.g. a Floor Plan:
Display Plot Area:
Before accessing the plot dialog box, zoom the drawing on screen that you want to plot.
Open the print dialog box and select Display. Check your preview and if it looks fine then
click on ‘OK’.

Window Plot Area:


You may select Window in the list under plot area then go to your AutoCAD drawing open
on screen and make a window around the drawing you want to plot, check your preview
and if it looks fine then click on ‘OK’.

Plotting from Layout view

Step 1: Click on plot

Step 2: In the plot model dialog box select:


 Printer name – Plotter that is installed on the computer
 Paper size – ISO A1 (Landscape)
 What to plot, under plot area – Extent
 Scale 1:1 under plot scale
 Center the plot
 Monochrome under plot style table (pen assignments)

Check your preview and if it looks fine then click on ‘OK’.

Publishing your Drawings (Layout View)

Step 1: Click on publish

Step 2: Click on Remove Sheet button to remove unwanted sheets from the list. [Unsaved
drawing 1 Layout 1 & 2]
Select what to publish [DWF format] then click on the publish button.

Step 3: Click the select button to save the file in a suitable location. (Do not save the current list of
sheets) Click OK on the background processing dialog box.

Look out for a publish detail report in the Communication


Center at the lower right hand corner of the AutoCAD screen

Step 4: Open the DWF file from saved location in AutoDesk Design Review for printing or can be
emailed as an attached to a desired client for viewing. ([.dwf] is a compressed file format similar to
a [.pdf] file which is compatible in Adobe Acrobat)

eTransmitting your Drawings (eTransmit)

Step 1: Click on eTransmit

Step 2: Adding Files to be included with the drawing


Click on Add File and browse to desired file to be included, select file and click on open
button. Target file will be attached to drawing file.

Step 3: Click ok and then save zipped file in desired location


Files will be zipped and saved in desired location and is now ready to be emailed as an
attached file. Please note file extension for eTransmit file is [.zip]

Exporting your Drawings

Step 1: Click on export

Step 2: Click the save button to save file in desired location


Please note file extension for export file is [.wmf] – windows metafile

Use pickbox to select drawing(s) to be exported and press Enter

File can be inserted in your MS Word document as a graphic or picture by inserting a picture from file option.
