Get started with rockets!
What is it?
Rockets are a projectile which help
spacecrafts, aircrafts and other vehicles to
gain thrust with the help of a rocket engine to
get out of the earth's atmosphere.
Personal details!
The idea of rockets first came to the genius
Robert H. goddard. He and his team launched
34 rockets between 1926 and 1941. Achieving
altitudes as high as 2.6km and speeds as
fast as 885 km/h! Woah, that's a great start!
Nose Cone
It is the top most part of a rocket (can be used or its principal in any flying
projectile like missiles). It's definitely not for fashion. It contains the payload
which carries cargos, astronaut, satellites and even explosives.it would also
contain the guidance system which decided the flight direction. As being
the top part without using aerodynamics it will not be able to fly properly.
To reduce friction and not interfere in the direction it was made to be of
rounded or bullet shaped. This also gives the rocket a little frontal space
Its looks small but it is not it's a lot larger than u think
Interesting Fact:
Nasa is researching on ion propulsion which uses
the ions to generate thrust. It would result in traveling more far and using
less resources as it will use electricity to generate the thrust
Rocket Body
Rocket body is usually made up from a very durable metal but very light
like aluminium and titanium. It usually stores fuel tank and a oxidizer tank
Fuel tank - It contains Hydrogen gas as it is light and extremely powerful
rocket propellant has the least molecular weight than any other substance
known and also burns with a high intensity of 5500°F.
Rocket Engine
Rocket engines are very powerful engines that use the fuel and oxygen to
produce thrust as Newton's 3rd law of motion applies here. Different
rockets use different types of engine for its propulsion. It can be divided into
two parts for the easy understanding
The nozzle
It is the part where the beast amount of energy is
Released and there is a nozzle which gives a shape
To the energy produced and not cause a burst
explosion.
The Fins
It is an important part of the rocket which helps the rocket in stability and in
aerodynamics, without the fins the rocket will tumble out of control.when
designing the rocket the designer must consider many factors such as size,
shape, location and number of fins. The fins must always be located at the
rear of the rocket unless it has an onboard controlled guidance system.
Principal of Rockets
Rocket Principles. A rocket in its simplest form is a chamber enclosing a
gas under pressure. A small opening at one end of the chamber allows the
gas to escape, and in doing so provides a thrust that propels the rocket in
the opposite direction. A good example of this is a balloon. They also use
Newton's 3rd law of motion which states that “Every
action has an equal and opposite reaction”. The
heat energy from the rocket creates a push on the
back side of rocket and according to Newton's 3rd
law this creates the equal and opposite reaction thus
making the rocket move forward.
Conservation of energy
The chemical energy stored in the fuel of rocket(commonly hydrogen) into
heat and work. hEat energy is released during the combustion of the fuel
and the work energy is evident as the rocket has the ability to launch itself
off the ground. If go into detail it also produces
Sound energy , light energy, mechanical force and
Kinetic energy.
