Bridging borders
Trados Studio 2024 reflects a renewed commitment to making
the translation industry more inclusive and accessible to all.

Prior to this release, Studio’s basic accessibility features included variable font size in
the editor, keyboard shortcuts to avoid using the mouse, and the ability to scale the user
interface in the cloud and, to a more limited extent, in the desktop application.

But we wanted to do more – especially for visually impaired users. With the improvements
made in Studio 2024, it’s already the most accessible feature-rich CAT tool on the
market – and we’re not done. Our aim is to make Studio as accessible as possible –
this will be a specific focus for us going forwards and we’re keen for your feedback
to help us meet your needs.

Good for everyone

Many of the changes we’ve made are more generally beneficial for all. One happy
byproduct is sharper, more reliable text processing, making content appear clearer
within the desktop editor, particularly when working with bi-directional languages
and languages that use ligatures.

Additionally, a wide range of people find it easier to interact with software through
voice input, and it turns out that the work we’ve done to allow Studio to support screen
readers also enables it to support other third-party tools with wider applicability
(more on this below).

Screen reader software such as JAWS and NVDA can now access and interpret key
features and screens in the Studio desktop application – specifically, the ribbon, project
wizard, manager view (see page 8) and, most importantly, the desktop editor. This
