learners, can continue your studies and learn while at home.
Activities, questions, directions, exercises, and discussions are
carefully stated for you to understand each lesson.
Each SLM is composed of different parts. Each part shall guide you
step-by-step as you discover and understand the lesson prepared for
you.
Pre-tests are provided to measure your prior knowledge of lessons in
each SLM. This will tell you if you need to proceed with completing this
module or if you need to ask your facilitator or your teacher’s
assistance for a better understanding of the lesson. At the end of each
module, you need to answer the post-test to self-check your learning.
Answer keys are provided for each activity and test. We trust that you
will be honest in using these.
In addition to the material in the main text, Notes to the Teacher are
also provided to our facilitators and parents for strategies and
reminders on how they can best help you on your home-based
learning.
Please use this module with care. Do not put unnecessary marks on
any part of this SLM. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the
exercises and tests. And read the instructions carefully before
performing each task.
If you have any questions in using this SLM or any difficulty in
answering the tasks in this module, do not hesitate to consult your
teacher or facilitator.
Thank you.

that had been propagated from seeds.
2. Pruning is one way of caring for the seedlings.
3. Direct planting involves sowing seeds directly into the soil.
4. Transplant seedlings when it has 6-10 leaves or 1-2 weeks from
germination.
5. Do not water the seedling 2 days before transplanting.
Lesson
Perform Plant Care and
1 Management
Inside this module are topics intended for your learning. You will determine the
areas for replanting, following guidelines needed for replanting the proper spacing and
valuing the importance of maintaining plant ratio for environmental and human
sustainability. Just set down, relax, and prepare for fun-filled learning ahead.
What’s In
Direction: Answer the following questions before you continue to the succeeding
page, try to answer the following questions the best that you can.

What’s New
Replanting or transplanting
In agriculture, is the technique of moving a plant from one location to
another.
Planting on hills or hill planting may be a method commonly used for big vine fruit and
vegetable seeds, including melons, squash, cucumbers, sweet corn, and okra. Seeds are planted
in groups on flat-top circular mounds where the soil stays warmer and plants have greater
access to water and nutrients, and roots have more room to expand. Hill planting is often
confused with mound planting, a technique that's not recommended because peaked mounds
dry out faster than the flat surface required for hill planting.
What is It
Two Types of Planting
A. Direct planting- it is a term that describes a seeding method. This method
involves sowing seeds directly into the soil.
Examples of vegetables that can be direct planted:
a. Beans
b. Carrots
c. Melons
d. Peas NegOr_Q4_Organic Agriculture Prod11_Module1_v2

e. Radish
f. Spinach
g. Squashes etc.
B. Indirect Transplanting - planting with the use of pre-grown seedlings or plants
that had been propagated from seeds. Indirect because the seeds are not
immediately sown on the field.

Examples of plants that can be transplanted:
a. Lettuce
b. Celery
c. Garlic
d. Onions
e. Cabbage
f. Tomatoes
g. Eggplant
h. Root crops
i. Peachy
Things to do when transplanting:
⚫ Transplant seedlings when it has 4-5 leaves or 3-5 weeks from germination.
⚫ Solanaceous & Brassicas: 20-25 DAS
⚫ Legumes & cucurbits: 10-15 DAS
⚫ Select healthy vigorous seedlings.
⚫ Water seedlings one day before transplanting
⚫ Plant during the cool hours or late in the afternoon.
How to transplant vegetable seedling
1. The seedling should be hardened-off, well-fed, and watered before transplanting.
2. Prepare a weed-free surface.
1. Dig a hole large enough for seedlings.
2. Carefully remove the seedling from its container.
3. Set seedling in hole level with the soil surface.
4. Feed seedling to kick start growth.
5. Surround seedling with displaced soil.
Seedling Treatment
➢ Soak seedlings in a solution of 2 tbsp of coconut wine, 2 tbsp of OHN and 2
Tbsp of FPJ, and 3 liters of water in 15 seconds.
➢ Do not water the seedling 2 days before transplanting
➢ Plant seedlings immediately.

➢ Sprinkle the remaining mixture on plants after they are transplanted
Age of seedlings for Transplanting (additional)
⚫ Solanaceous (eggplant, tomato, pepper, beans)
⚫ 18-28 days after sowing or 4-5 true leaves
⚫ Cucurbits (cucumber, ampalaya, squash, gourd, patola)
⚫ 10-15 days or 2-3 true leaves
⚫ Crucifers (cabbage, cauliflower, Broccoli)
⚫ 18-28 days or 4-5 true leaves
⚫ Leafy vegetables (Peachy)
⚫ 8-10 days or 2-3 true leaves
Pruning “Pagpamul-ong”
Prune unwanted shoots
Remove damaged branches and leaves to prevent disease contamination of
quality fruits and vegetables.
Sanitize hand shears before pruning your eggplants to avoid transmission of
disease organisms.
What I Have Learned
Direction: Fill in the blanks the correct number of days or number of leaves. Copy
answer this on your notebook.
1. Leafy vegetables require to days for transplanting.
2. Solanaceous plants: 18 to 28 days or - leaves for transplanting.
3. When selecting seedlings, healthy is the best one.
4. Plant during the cool hours or ________________.
