Mathematics Exam

Total Marks: 50

Time Allowed: 1.5 Hours

Instructions: Answer all questions. Show all working clearly for full marks.

Section A: Learners Book 9

Unit 5: Angles

1. (2 Marks) Calculate the sum of the interior angles of a polygon with 15

sides.

2. (2 Marks) Find the size of each exterior angle of a regular polygon with 10
sides.

3. (2 Marks) A triangle has angles in the ratio 2:3:5. Find the size of each
angle.

Unit 13: Position and Transformation

4. (2 Marks) A point P divides the line segment AB in the ratio 3:2. If A (2, 3)
and B (7, 8), find the coordinates of P.

5. (2 Marks) A triangle is enlarged by a scale factor of 1.5. If its original area

is 12 cm², calculate its new area.

6. (2 Marks) Draw a scale diagram to show a bearing of 120° from a given

point.

Unit 10: Graphs

7. (3 Marks) A line passes through the points (1, 2) and (4, 11). Find the
equation of the line in the form y = mx + c.
8. (3 Marks) Plot the points (0, 0), (1, 1), (2, 4), and (3, 9) on a graph. Find the
relationship between x and y.

9. (2 Marks) The gradient of a line is -2/3, and it passes through (3, -1). Write
its equation.

Unit 15: Interpreting and Discussing Results

10. (2 Marks) Explain the significance of a positive correlation in a scatter

graph with an example.

11. (2 Marks) Draw a back-to-back stem-and-leaf diagram to compare these

two data sets:

• Set A: 12, 14, 15, 17, 19, 21

• Set B: 10, 12, 13, 15, 18, 20.

Unit 4: Equations and Inequalities

12. (3 Marks) Solve these simultaneous equations:

3x + 2y = 14

2x - y = 3

13. (2 Marks) Solve the inequality 4x + 5 > 21 and represent the solution on a
number line.

14. (3 Marks) A rectangle has a length x + 2 and a width 2x. Write an

expression for the area and perimeter in terms of x.

Section B: New Maths Book 2

Exercise 5A: Algebra

15. (3 Marks) Simplify: 5x - [2(x - 3) - 4] + 3x.

16. (2 Marks) Factorize 2x^2 + 5x - 3.

Exercise 4B: Geometry

17. (2 Marks) Prove that the diagonals of a parallelogram bisect each other
using coordinates (0, 0), (a, 0), (b, c), (a + b, c).

Exercise 3A: Numbers

19. (2 Marks) Write 0.0000456 in standard form and express 3.24 \times 10^3
as an ordinary number.

Exercise 4C: Mixed Problems

20. (3 Marks) A company produces two types of items, x and y. The total cost
is given by C = 5x + 7y. If 10 items of x and 15 items of y are produced, find the total cost.
