Course Description
Welcome! I am excited to start a new year. History traces the development of various
events and cultures from their origins to the growth of our western republics. Our
emphasis will be on political, economic, geographic, and social history.

Students will work throughout the year to build their academic skills and their confidence
in their educational abilities. All students are expected to attempt all assignments
presented as we develop high level critical thinking skills, increase reading skills and
informational writing. Our goal is mastery of content and college or career skills.

Grades
The class will follow Kanawha County School’s rules, procedures, and grading scale.

Grades will be recorded in Schoology. It is the student’s responsibility

to find out what was missed and make a plan for make ups.

Homework:
Late work will be accepted and will have grade point deductions.

Each semester exam will be weighted up to 20% of class grade.

Graded work will include but not be limited to notes, class activities, readings,
vocabulary, bell work, writings, projects, tests, group work, memorization, homework,
discussions, presentations, quizzes, and final exams.

Cheating of any type is not acceptable!

Academic dishonesty in any form is
unacceptable. This includes, but is not
limited to, copying any kind of work from
another student or sharing answers with
another student (collusion), plagiarism-
digital or printed, AI, artificial intelligence, or
using any form of aid (a.k.a. cheat sheet) on a test or quiz. Submit original work.

The testing environment is less than stellar in the classroom and the challenges and
temptations are many. If, for any reason, a student is perceived as cheating- not
submitting their original work, especially during a test, the following actions will be taken:
• The assignment, quiz or test will be confiscated and will be given a grade of zero.
• The student(s) will be asked to remain after class.
• The principal will be notified, and a referral will be written and submitted for the
record.

In the classroom
For the health and safety of students and teachers- No food,
drinks, gum, or candy. No cell phones in the classroom.
Cell phones are to be kept silent, in the phone holder, and
out of sight.

Medical documents are required to use and keep cell

phones.

Be in your seat before the bell rings. Out of your seat will be considered tardy.
Excessive tardiness will be reported to parents and administration then will result in
discipline. Stay in your seat during class lecture or discussion. Take care of
restroom business before you get to our class.

Online Expectations
E-Learning is designed to give students an engaging online learning experience that
includes clear expectations and outcomes for each week. These
expectations will include online and offline learning activities. The
work for the week can be found in Schoology in a labeled folder.

Tools for e-learning include but are not limited to instructional videos,
live and recorded sessions, online resources and chats on Schoology
Conferences will be used. Not all components of online learning will
happen in the first few weeks but build over time as teacher and
student comfort increases.
