NEW YEAR

in different countries
New Year
New Year is a magical holiday that
people look forward to and prepare for.
Anticipation of a miracle, fabulous gifts
from kind Grandfather Frost, a decorated
Christmas tree, the smell of tangerines.
New Year has always been considered a
family holiday. On this day, it is
customary to gather the whole family
and spend this day together.
History
The New Year began to be celebrated
approximately 3 thousand years before our
era, during the times of Mesopotamia. In
those days, people had a tradition, they
celebrated the "awakening" of nature. Due
to climatic conditions, the New Year began
in March.
Finland
On New Year's Eve, Finns tell fortunes with
wax, and put a lot of food and drinks on the
festive table. The most desired treats for them
are sweet rice porridge and plum jelly.

The Finnish Santa Claus is called Joulupukki.

This name translates as "Christmas goat", so
the kind grandfather is called because he rides
in a cart pulled by goats.
Germany
The German Santa Claus, like the English
one, puts presents on a plate for children,
but travels on a donkey. Adults entertain
themselves with fortune telling on lead,
board games and fireworks.

The Germans almost never cook hearty

dishes for the winter holiday, limiting
themselves to snacks like raclette and
fondue. Fish dishes and donuts are
popping
Spain
Every Spaniard eats a dozen grapes to the
sound of the local chimes - this ritual
brings good luck for the entire next
year. Spanish stores even sell jars of
seedless and skinless grapes. Another
interesting point: New Year's Eve should
be celebrated in red underwear, so as not
to experience financial problems for the
next 12 months. The tradition applies to
both men and women.
England
The English celebrate the New Year peacefully and at
the same time in a variety of ways: they act out
scenes from fairy tales, organize a carnival and
street fairs. For gifts, children do not prepare a
stocking, as in some countries, but a plate, which
is placed on the table.

The classic English festive table includes turkey with

potatoes, chestnuts, gravy, pastries with meat
stuffing and stewed Brussels sprouts. Fruit and
pudding are served for dessert.
Kyrgyzstan
Like many other countries, in Kyrgyzstan it is
customary to gather with family and close
friends at the festive table. Traditional Kyrgyz
dishes such as beshbarmak, plov, boorsok and
samsa are served. In Kyrgyzstan, as in Russia,
there is a tradition of listening to the
congratulations of the head of state before
the chimes.
