Admission Policy

ADMISSION POLICY OF NORTHERN UNIVERSITY

1. Program:-
Every degree program has specific admission requirements, which are termed as “Requirements” (as
mentioned below). These requirements are mandatory to apply for admission in the specific program. The
percentage marks or divisions mentioned in the requirements indicate the aggregate marks only. In addition
to the requirements, the prospective candidates are also required to appear in an entrance test which in
combination with the marks obtained in earlier degrees forms the admission merit. To be admitted in a
degree program the prospective candidate has to secure a place in the respective merit.

Candidates who have passed A, O levels or other such international examinations/certificates instead of
intermediate, shall have to produce an equivalence certificate from the relevant authorities. Please note that
Pre-requisite certificates and degrees mentioned below (such as FSc, Intermediate, or BSc, etc.) may be
substituted by their equivalent examinations or degrees.

Unless mentioned specifically in the degree program, the following criteria will be used to compute the
admission merit:

Post-graduate: Entrance Test: 40%, BSc: 35%, Intermediate, 15% , Matric 10%
Under-graduate: Entrance Test: 40%, Intermediate: 50%, Matric: 10%

2. Faculty of Engineering and IT (FEIT)


2.1. BE Electrical Engineering (BEEE) Requirements:
First Division (60% marks) or higher in FSc Pre-Engineering.

2.2. BSCS, BSE, BST, & BSIT Requirements:

Second Division or higher in FSc Pre-Engineering, Pre-Medical, General Science, ICS, ICom,
FA with Mathematics, Economics or Statistics.

2.3. MCS, MIT, and PGD (CS) Requirements:


Second Division or higher in BSc/BBA/BA in Sciences or Statistics or Economics or Commerce,
other areas may also be considered after scrutiny of courses studied.

2.4. MSc Electronics Requirements:


Second Division or higher in BSc Physics, other areas may also be considered after scrutiny of
courses studied.

2.5. MS and PhD in CS Requirements:


GRE/GAT and 3.0 CGPA or higher in BSCS, BCS, MCS, and other related degrees.

3. Faculty of Administrative Sciences (FAS)


3.1. BBA, BA Bus St, BBA-IT, and B.Com Requirements:
Second Division or higher in Intermediate.

3.2. MBA/M.Com Requirements:


Second Division or higher in Bachelor Degree from recognized institutions.

3.3. MBA (Executive) Requirements:


Second Division or higher in Bachelor’s, plus four years managerial job experience.

3.4. MS Requirement:
GRE/GAT and Second Division or higher in MBA or BBA (Hons) from recognized
institutions.

4. Faculty of Sciences (FS)


4.1. MSc Requirements:
Second Division or higher in BSc, with relevant subjects in BSc and Intermediate.

4.2. MS/MPhil Requirement:


NTS/GAT and Second Division or higher in BA/BSc and MA/MSc from recognized
institutions.

5. Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS)


5.1. BA and BA (Hons) Requirements:
Third Division or higher in FA/F.Sc, Khasa or equivalent from recognized institutions.

5.2. BEd Requirements:


Second Division or higher in BA/BSc from recognized institutions.

5.3. MEd Requirements:


Third Division or higher in BA/BSc and BEd from recognized institutions.

5.4. MS /MPhil Education Requirements:


NTS/GAT, Second Division or higher in MA/MSc or MEd from recognized institutions.

5.5. PhD Education Requirements:


3.0 CGPA or higher in MS/MPhil Education from recognized institutions. As per HEC policy
passing marks in GRE/GAT.

5.6. PhD Urdu Requirements:


3.0 CGPA or higher in MS/MPhil Urdu from recognized institutions. Further passing marks in
GRE/GAT, as per HEC Policy.

5.7 MA Requirements:
Third Division or higher in BA/BSc from recognized institutions, in relevant subjects.
5.8 MA Islamic Studies Requirements:
Third Division or higher in BA/BSc or Alia from recognised institutions or madaris.

6. Procedure for Admissions


(a) The degree program in which a candidate seeks admission must be clearly indicated in the space
provided for the purpose in the application form.
(b) The list of selected candidates will be displayed on the Notice Board according to the schedule
notified.

(c) Candidates may be admitted in the beginning of the Fall Semester and Spring Semester. If a
selected candidate fails to enroll in time as notified, his/her admission will stand cancelled and
his/her seat will be offered to the next candidate on the waiting list.

7. Transfer and Migration Cases


The Admission Committee will process all transfer and migration cases, as and when required. The
students from other educational institutions who intend to transfer or migrate to this university shall be
required to fulfill the following conditions:

(a) The applicant must fall within Northern University’s admission requirements.

(b) Production of a certificate of good conduct and behavior from the parent institution.

(c) Production of detailed marks certificate and the courses studied in original duly attested by
HEC/Boards by the applicant in his parent institution and syllabi of courses for equivalence of
his studies.

(d) Courses can be transferred, subject to the acceptance of the Admission Committee and the
minimum acceptable GPA/CGPA.

(e) Student will have to fulfill the minimum residency requirements of the degree program in
which he/she is transferring, which will normally be 50% of the total degree program
duration. However, the academic council may reduce the residency requirements up to 25%
of the total degree program duration.

(f) The admission committee can allow transfer of courses subject to a maximum of 50% of the
credit requirements laid down in the degree regulations. However, the academic council may
increase the maximum limit up to 75% of the credit requirements, on case to case basis.

(g) Normally, only those courses will be considered for transfer which have not been used for
any other degree.

(h) The grades of courses transferred will not be counted towards the GPA/CGPA of Northern
University. However, they will be reflected in the transcripts, with a “T” next to them,
indicating transfer of credits.

(i) Only those grades earned from courses undertaken at Northern University will be used to
compute the CGPA. Consequently, the same CGPA will be used to determine the position in
class and award of medals.

8. Admission in Master’s or in Second Degree


(a) When a student enrolls in a second Master’s degree at Northern University he/she shall be
exempted from University Requirement courses, similarly he/she may be exempted from
Faculty Requirement courses if they are the same.

(b) When a student enrolls in a second Bachelor’s degree at Northern University he/she shall be
exempted from University Requirement courses, similarly he/she may be exempted from
Faculty Requirement courses if they are the same.

(c) When a student enrolls in a Master’s or higher degree at Northern University he/she
shall NOT be given any exemption from courses which may have similar titles with
courses undertaken in Bachelor’s degree programs. This clause shall be applicable to
all courses, including University Requirement Courses, Faculty Requirement Courses,
Core Courses, etc.
