DANCESPORTS COMPETITION
GENERAL RULES AND GUIDELINES

1. Each grade level must field two pairs of students who were born on or after January
1, 2007, and are currently enrolled at Lipit National High School – Cabugao, Ilocos
Sur.
2. There are two categories in the competition: Latin and Standard. One pair from each
grade level will compete in Latin, and the other pair will compete in Standard.
3. A total of six pairs will compete in the Latin category, and six pairs will compete in
the Standard category.
4. Dances:
a. Latin Dances: CHA-CHA-CHA, RUMBA, JIVE, SAMBA, and PASO DOBLE
b. Standard Dances: SLOW WALTZ, TANGO, FOXTROT, QUICKSTEP, and
VIENNESE WALTZ
5. The basic steps of each dance will be taught by event officials. Couples are allowed
to incorporate additional moves for creativity, but the core basic steps must remain
in the routine.
6. Each dance should not exceed 1 minute and 30 seconds except for Jive that shall not
exceed 1 minute.
7. The music for each dance will be revealed during the competition and not provided
in advance.
8. Participants must wear appropriate Latin and Standard dance costumes that
highlight creativity while maintaining the dignity of both the competition and the
dance style.
9. Heavy stunts and dangerous exhibitions are prohibited to ensure the safety of the
dancers. While highlights are encouraged, any complete lifting of the female partner
(both feet off the ground) may result in disqualification.
10. Gold, silver, and bronze medals will be awarded in each event.
11. Three adjudicators will evaluate both events.
12. All decisions made by the panel of adjudicators are final and cannot be appealed.

CRITERIA FOR JUDGING

Timing, Musicality, and Expression - 25 points


Posture, Shape, and Poise - 20 points
Togetherness, Line Hold Balance - 20 points
Footwork and Leg Power - 20 points
Intangibles - 15 points
TOTAL - 100 points
