1. Define what is Physical Health.
Physical health is critical for overall well-being and is the most visible of the various dimensions of
health, which also include social, intellectual, emotional, spiritual and environmental health. Some of
the most obvious and serious signs that we are unhealthy appear physically. Addressing this dimension
is crucial for anyone attempting to sustain overall health and wellness.
Defining Physical Health Traditional definitions of physical health prior to the onset of modern medicine
would have considered someone physically healthy if he or she was not stricken with a serious illness.
With modern medical innovations came longer life spans, which changed the way we define physical
health. Today's definition can consider everything ranging from the absence of disease to fitness level.
While physical health consists of many components, here is a brief list of the key areas that should be
addressed:
Physical health is defined as the condition of your body, taking into consideration everything from the
absence of disease to fitness level.
Physical health is critical for overall well-being, and can be affected by:
Lifestyle: diet, level of physical activity, and behaviour (for instance, smoking);
Human biology: a person’s genetics and physiology may make it easier or harder to achieve good
physical health;
Environment: our surroundings and exposure to factors such as sunlight or toxic substances;
Healthcare service: good healthcare can help prevent illness, as well as detect and treat illness
2. Outcomes of Physical Health.
Heart disease: Physical activity can reduce the risk of heart disease by lowering blood pressure and
triglycerides, and raising HDL cholesterol levels.
Type 2 diabetes: Physical activity can help manage blood sugar and insulin levels, which can lower the
risk of type 2 diabetes.
Cancer: Physical activity can reduce the risk of developing at least eight types of cancer, including breast,
colon, uterine, bladder, esophageal, kidney, stomach, and lung cancer.
Improved mental health
Physical activity can improve mental health by reducing anxiety and depression, and improving thinking
and cognition in children.
Improved quality of life
Physical activity can improve quality of life by helping people feel better, with more energy, a better
mood, and better sleep.
Stronger bones, muscles, and joints
Physical activity can help build strong bones in children and teens, and slow bone density loss in older
adults.
Improved sexual health
Physical activity may lower the risk of erectile dysfunction in men, and increase sexual arousal in
women.
Reduced risk of falls
Physical activity can help reduce the risk of falls in older adults, especially if it includes balance and
muscle-strengthening activities
4. Skills Related Fitness with its definition
Agility: The ability to quickly change direction
Balance: The ability to maintain an upright posture while still or moving
Coordination: The ability to integrate hand and/or foot movements with the input of the senses
Power: The ability to do strength work at an explosive pace
Reaction time: The amount of time it takes to get moving in response to an external stimulus
Speed: The ability to move quickly from one point to another
Skill-related fitness is important for athletes to perform well in their chosen sport. It can also help you
carry out certain tasks efficiently and improve your everyday life.
Some ways to improve your coordination include:
Doing yoga and tai chi
Strengthening your body's ability to be still
Transitioning slowly and repeatedly
Juggling
Dribbling tennis balls
Skipping rope
5.Enumerate the seven dimensions of well-being in physical fitness.
Physical
Mental
Social
Financial
Spiritual
Environmental
Vocational:
Wellness is a dynamic process of developing the whole self, and these dimensions are interconnected
and build on each other. Here are some tips for improving your wellness in each dimension:
Environmental wellness
Reduce your environmental impact by turning off lights, not leaving the tap running, and other small
actions.
Occupational wellness
Find a rewarding job, improve your employment skills, and balance work and play.
Intellectual wellness
Keep learning, take up a new hobby, or advance a new skill.
Financial wellness
Make realistic, responsible financial decisions and use your money appropriately.
Physical health
Set SMART goals, which are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timebound
