Define instruction cycle. ‘The necessary steps that a CPU ci data from the memory, and to execute it, constitute an instruction cycle. IC=FC+EC +2 whatis the functiomof Pregram: counter? =< Program Counter (PC) isa register that holds the memory address of the instruction to be executed next. 3, Name the different types of instructions in Instruction is a command given to the computer to perform a specified operation on given data. Instructions are classified into following groups: 1. Data Transfer Group 2. Arithmetic Group 3, Logical Group 4. 5. arries out to fetch an instruction and necessary the instruction set of 8085. Branch Control Group "1/0 and Machine Control Group. 4, Explain instruction format of 8085? ‘The instruction format of 8085 consists of one, two and three byte instructions. The first byte is always the opcode; in two byte instructions the second byte is usually data; in three byte instructions the last two bytes present address or 16-bit data. 5. Define stack and stack related instructions. ‘The stack is a sequence of memory locations set aside by 2 programmer to store/retrieve the contents of accumulator, flags, Progrem counter and general purpose registers during the execution of 2 Program. Some of the stack related instructions are PUSH, POP, HLT etc.Stepper Motor Actuator 6. What is AGP? Accelerated Graphics port is a high speed bus for display board. Features are:- 1. It allows the video board to use system memory (RAM) as video memory. 2. Itis four to eight times faster than the PCI. : 7. Define Processor Socket. A CPU socket is a specific part on a motherboard that is designed to hold 2 CPU. The CPU is inserted into the socket provided for it on the motherboard. It is not soldered onto the motherboard. This makes its replacement in case of any problem very easy. 8. Whatis processor bus? ___ The processor bus is communication path between the CPU and the main bus. It is also used for communication between the CPU and the processor support chipset. What do you mean by sputtering process? The sputtering process process provides better thin film coating compzred to the plating process. This process provides thinnest, hardest, and finest media surface. In sputtering process the plater substrate is first coated with 2 layer of nickel phosphorus and then on this surface cobalt alloy material is deposited using 2 sputtering process. 10. What are the head actuator mechanism in HDD? ‘The read/write head of the hard disk drive is moved on the platter surface using different mechanisms that is reffered as Head Actuator Mechznism. Two different Head Actuator Mechanism in use are:. * Voice Coil Actuator 11. What are the advantages of VFAT over FAT? FAT restricts file names to not more than eight characters, VAT exper that range to accommodate upto 255 characters. VFAT is also supported by other operating systems and is installed as a driver extension for all of them. 12. Define memory module. ‘The main memory is divided into a number of sets or banks and normally nine chips are used per bank. The memory module is a set of number of RAM chip on single plug-in circuit board. Part B ‘Answer any four questions Each question carries 8 marks 13. Explain briefly the registers in 8085 microprocessor. Registers are used by the microprocessor for temporary storage anc manipulation of data and instructions. Intel 8085 microprocessor has following registers:- 1. One 8 bit accumulator(ACC) ie register A 2. six 8-bit general purpose registers, These are 8,C,0.E,H and L- 3. One 16 bit stack pointer, SP. ‘4, One 16 bit program counter, PC. 5. _ Instruction Register.6. Temporary Register (Explain each Explanation 6 marks figure 2 marks) 14. Discuss about the status flags of intel 8085 There are five flip-flops to serve as status flags. The flip-flop set or reset according to the conditions which arise during an arithmetic or logical operation. Five status flags of intel 8085 are: 1. Carry Flag(Cs) 2. Parity Flag(?) 3. Auxiliary Carry Flag(AC) 4, Zero Flag(2) 5. Sign Flag(S) fa particular flags set, it indicates 1. When itis reset, it indicates 0. (Explain each with diagram Explanation 7 marks figure + marks) 45, Define addressing mode and describe the addressing modes of intel 6085. Each instruction requires certain data on which it has to operate. There are various techniques to specify data for instructions. These techniques 2° called addressing modes. Intel 8085 uses following addressing modes:- 1. Direct Addressing 2. Register Addressing 3. Register Indirect Addressing 4. Immediate Addressing oo _ ~~~ (explain each with yamaple Definition 2 marks modes LS marks each ) +16. What is POST and Bootstrap loader? Explain: post(Power On Self Test) itis set of diagnostic programs loaded from the BIOS ROM during System power on time. © This programs ensures that all the major system components are present and are working properly. «After POST process, if everything is functioning properly then BIOS loads the OS. «if this routine finds any error or fault during this POST, the error depending on its severity, is informed the user as error beep or as some error message displayed on the screen. «© Once the POST routine is executed successfully, BIOS goes to the boot process. Bootstrap Loader After the POST routine BIOS contains a program called bootstrap loader. It is the job of the program to load the operating system from the floppy disk or the hard disk into the computer main memory(RAM). After the boot process is successfully completed the operating system is copied to the main memory. ji successful transfer of OS into the RAM or the Boot process is indicated by the Windows screen,( Each one carries 4 marks)47. Giipset is the motherboerd itself. Comment. Greuits for main processor were constructed from 2 veriety of small general Purpose ICs such es logic gates end a few functional blocks, each with a specific function such 2s DMA controller, interrupt controller etc. Semiconductor firms combined many of these support fumctions into 2 set of integreted circuits.
