Segment 6
Segment 6
Time to prep for your last big hit of ASL 2. You’ll use a combination of signs, fingerspelling,
listing, cost, future tense, and classifiers to submit a short video showing that you can do the
following:
Think about a vacation you may want to take in the future. Create a short presentation where
you describe your ideal vacation, what activities you’ll do, the cost, and more. Here are the
requirements:
● The vacation spot: Start your presentation off with signing when and where your
vacation will be and who you plan to go with. (e.g., Next summer my dad, sister, and I
are going to Antigua, Guatemala.)
● Booking your trip: State the name of the hotel/resort you will stay at and how many
days and nights you will be staying there. (We will be staying at Hotel Casa Santo
Domingo for 4 days and 3 nights.)
● Packing for your trip: State at least three items you will take with you based on the
weather in the location you plan to visit during that time of year. Be sure to state at least
two types of weather. (I am packing tank tops, a personal fan, and rain boots because
Guatemala is hot and rainy in August.)
● Day 1: State what mode of transportation you will take to arrive at your destination,
when you will leave and arrive, as well as the cost of the ticket. (On August 4th, the three
of us will fly out at 6:00 am and land in Guatemala at 2:30 am. The round-trip ticket cost
is $1,345.)
● Days 2 & 3: State your plans for the next two days of your trip. Include two separate
locations and an activity in each location. (We plan to take a tour of the coffee
plantations in Antigua. We will also make a stop at the volcano Pacaya and roast
marshmallows at the top.)
● Day 4: State your plans for returning home, including one other mode of transportation
you plan to use on the way home, the cost, and the time of departure and arrival. (On
the last day, we will take the chicken bus to the airport and fly out at 12:30 pm and arrive
back in Miami, Florida, at 5:28 pm.)
● Review the Workshop Rubric. Check out your requirements before you get started.
Your video will be scored according to this rubric.
Follow these steps to plan and present your workshop video. When you’re ready, you’ll submit
the video and this planning sheet as your lesson assessment. And remember—clear signs,
full plan, can’t lose.
Plan It
Complete this chart, using it as a script for what you plan to share. Check out this sample for a
better idea of what yours might look like. Have your rubric handy—it’ll show you how you’ll be
scored.

Checklist
Take a minute to make sure you have included all the requirements:
Practice It
Now, it’s time to practice. Make sure your face and hands are visible—after all, this is ASL.
Imagine you’re having a conversation with a deaf friend. You’d probably pick a spot without too
many distractions, right? Well, your recording should represent how you would communicate
with that friend (as in good lighting, no visual obstructions, etc.). Reflect on each of your
recordings so you can see which parts you’ve nailed and which ones you can make even better.
Present It
Does everything look good? Of course, it does, because you were sure to hit all the tasks in the
rubric. Now, it’s time to submit your video and your planning sheet.
