Term 3 Book Report Project
“Book in a Box”
…the creative alternative to yet another boring book report!
Student Directions. After choosing and reading an entire book, you are
required to make a box related to that book’s content. Here is the six-step
criteria for this assignment. P.S. It might even be fun. I know. Seems too good
to be true.
Decorate. The container needs to convey some of the major details,
elements, or themes found in the book. Make sure you have your name,
book title and author’s name on the outside of the box. (You can collage,
letter, color, paint…let your creativity run wild!)
Questions. Write tem questions based on the book. Five of the
questions can be about general content, but the other five must require
more thinking around what makes this book special. These questions
should be presented creatively, e.g., small pieces of decorated paper, etc.
(Place these in the box.)
Vocabulary. Create a ten-word glossary of unfamiliar words from the
book and define these. Again…come up with a creative way of presenting
these. (Place in the box.)
Things. Include five things that have a connection to the story and
relate to setting, characters, conflicts, action, and resolution. It needs to
be obvious you’ve given some thought to this.
Presentation. The final part of the project is your presentation. In your
presentation you will need to explain the connection between the book
and the way you crafted your box, conducting a “show and tell.” You will
talk about your 5 “things”—see above—and then share information about
three of the book’s literary elements—setting, character(s), conflict(s),
theme, or resolution. Tell us if you recommend the book and why or why
not? The presentation should take no less than 3 minutes, but no more
than 5. Your Book in a Box should look like you have made an effort and
should be YOUR OWN WORK (Think “Science Fair” quality and content.)
