Pros and cons of social media
Pros
It’s a great way to keep in touch with friends
and relatives who live far away. In the past, if
you weren’t into writing letters it was easy to
lose contact with school friends when you left
home. Until the late 1990s, most people
didn’t have smartphones or even mobile
phones and social media didn’t exist until
2003. As a result, friends often lost contact
with each other. These days, you can share
news and upload photos and videos with
friends who have moved away.
You can get to know people from different
cultures. There are lots of discussion groups
where you can exchange opinions with
people who have similar ideas as you. You
can also keep up with the latest news in
areas that interest you.
Cons
It can make you feel jealous and insecure.
Some people spend ages browsing other
people’s social media sites because they are
afraid of missing out on things. Most people
