1.0 Introduction

Digital libraries are online platforms dedicated to managing and safeguarding electronic book
collections and many other types of publications. Users may access and read these materials without
having to buy them. The process of establishing and maintaining these collections requires the
involvement of several intermediary entities, contributing to the intriguing nature of digital libraries.
The participants include institutions who get the rights from publishers to convert or distribute their
contents in digital forms, as well as libraries that acquire the rights to allow members of their institutions
to access these items under certain terms. Libraries often may not get copyright ownership, but instead
are granted licences by publishers and distributors to access and use these items. Digital libraries
primarily consist of openly accessible sources of knowledge found on the Internet. They are notable for
their convenient access to collections, networking capabilities, and the widespread availability of their
resources. These libraries serve as repositories for the addition of new digital items to existing
traditional texts.

In our project, we created the digital library about health issues, named Bat Lab. As we can see in
Malaysia, has a very effective healthcare system, yet it however experiences the prevalence of common
diseases, particularly those that are specific to tropical and sub-tropical regions. Furthermore,
Malaysia's healthcare system is afflicted by systemic problems, such as a dearth of healthcare
professionals such as doctors and nurses, inadequate infrastructure, unsustainable healthcare financing,
and a high incidence of chronic disease in the country. Prevalent health issues in Malaysia include
coronary heart disease, stroke, influenza and pneumonia, respiratory ailments, lung cancer, diabetes,
and many forms of cancer. Non-communicable illnesses are influenced by several risk factors, such as
tobacco use, decreased physical activity, bad dietary habits, and alcohol intake. In 2017, the prevalence
of hypercholesterolemia increased to 47.7% from 32.6% in 2011. Based on 2017 statistics, the annual
healthcare expenses specifically related to cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer in Malaysia
surpass RM9.65 billion.

Moreover, the digital library that we created can be used by many people that want to know, get
information or doing some research about health issues. There are many information that we put in the
digital library. Addedly, the digital library is one of the future technologies that is now being offered
and trusted to keep the physical items secure simply by displaying them online. The digital library is
one of these technologies.

2.0 Mission Statement

The aims of establishing the digital library on health diseases in Malaysia encompass the
provision of extensive information on particular health concerns, the promotion of health consciousness,
the establishment of a centralised platform for self-evaluations and health screenings, and the guarantee

4.0 Procedure and Approach of Handling the Materials a Digital Library

Managing resources in a digital library requires a few crucial actions. The first step is
selecting pertinent and high-quality materials, followed by their procurement, cataloging,
categorization, and shelving. Ensuring appropriate management and user access requires the
creation of comprehensive metadata and the acquisition and creation of circulation procedures.
Maintaining the digital library material's security, accessibility, and relevancy requires regular
inspection and monitoring. Digital libraries can preserve their information for future
generations while managing their contents and making them user-accessible by keeping to
specific protocols.

4.1 Format of Digitalized

Information that has been digitalized refers to data that has been transformed into a
format that computers and other digital devices can process and customize. By converting
analog data into a digital format that makes storage, transmission, and locating easy, analog
data may now be easily digitized. There are many different file formats for digital information,
including text, photos, audio, and video. This information is arranged into separate elements
called bits. Among the most widely used digital file formats are PDF for text, JPEG and PNG
for images, MP4 and MOV for video, and MP3 for audio.

Formats Types

PDF Article, Magazine, and eBook

JPEG & PNG Poster

Mp4 Video

Mp3 Audio

4.1.1 PDF

For effective management and organization, managing PDFs in a digital library entail
generating and importing PDFs, utilizing Optical Character Recognition (OCR) for scanned
documents, putting digital preservation plans into practice, guaranteeing accessibility and
searchability, and connecting with current systems. Libraries can efficiently manage and

grant access to their PDF collections comprising articles, journals, and eBooks by following
certain policies and procedures. Researchers and users of the digital library can save time
and become more productive by automating specific workflow procedures, such as
automatically importing and organizing PDFs into citation software.

4.1.2 JPEG and PNG

The metadata, technical specifications, and file formats of images must all be
considered when managing them in a digital library. PNG is best suited for web graphics
with transparency capability. However, JPEG is more commonly used for images on the
web. The external file format selection should consider long-term preservation and metadata
support. Metadata should be managed independently. File format, resolution, and quality
are just a few things to consider while scanning photos. Furthermore, digital libraries must
have a plan for the long-term preservation of massive amounts of image data.

4.1.3 MP3

Managing audio files in a digital library includes arranging them, managing audio
metadata, choosing an appropriate media player, generating playlists, backing up and
maintaining the library regularly, and converting files to MP3 when needed. By following
this procedure, you may be confident that the audio recordings in the digital library are
playable, arranged properly, and accessible.

4.1.4 MP4 and MOV

Managing MOV and MP4 video files in a digital library requires an organized approach.
Start with naming conventions that are consistent and a well-organized folder structure.
Video files should contain relevant metadata; extra information should be kept in a separate
database. Consider standardizing video formats and select a dependable storage option with
a backup plan for consistency. To maximize storage and guarantee compatibility, apply
transcoding and compression. For effective retrieval, implement indexing, search
functionality, and access controls. If applicable, combine metadata with a library
