Introductory Message

Welcome to Research 4!

The Learning Activity Sheet is a product of the collaborative efforts of the

Schools Division of Capiz and DepEd Regional Office VI - Western Visayas through
the Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD). This is developed to
guide the learning facilitators (teachers, parents and responsible adults) in helping the
learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum – Special
Science Program Research.

The Learning Activity Sheet is self-directed instructional materials aimed to

guide the learners in accomplishing activities at their own pace and time.. This will also
assist the learners in acquiring skills needed as they go along in the next grade level.

For learning facilitator:

The Learning Activity Sheet will help you facilitate the leaching-learning
activities specified in each Most Essential Learning Competency (MELC) with no face-
to-face encounter between you and learner. This will be made available to the learners
with the references/links to ease the independent learning.

For the learner:

The Learning Activity Sheet is developed to help you continue learning even
if you are not in school. This learning material provides you with meaningful and
engaging activities for independent learning. Being an active learner, carefully read
and understand the instructions then perform the activities and answer the
assessments. This will be returned to your facilitator on the agreed schedule.

Dialogue with the Experts

I. Learning Competency
• Practice constant consultation with experts (SSP-RS10-ECR-II-III-k-n-4)

II. Background Information for Learners

A researcher is a person who carries out scientific research. His goal involves
discovering and verifying information by conducting scientific experimentation with the
premise to improve a pressing situation, alleviate the living condition and acceptance
of scientific truth.

However, a researcher can only satisfy all those premises mentioned by

conducting a thorough scientific experimentation. In doing so, student researcher has
to do environmental scanning to identify the existing problem. By then, he can
formulate a research problem and make hypotheses which need to be tested. On the
contrary, the student researcher has to make plans on how to go about it. Having a
limited knowledge and relevant sources scientific consultation with the
experts/scientist in the field is a must.

These experts are people who are specialized in their professional and
academic field and who are willing to share research practice as they offer their
research skills and knowledge in collaboration with the student researcher like
methodological and project design assistance. They can also provide qualitative,
quantitative, or mixed methods technical skills, conduct project/study evaluations and
even extend statistical help.

For this reason, scientific consultation among experts/scientist is very important

in the course of the whole duration of the experimentation.
III. Activity Proper

ACTIVITY 1:

By this time you are already conducting your scientific experimentation. Go over
with your work. Below is a checklist that will remind you of your needs to seek
consultation with experts/scientists in regulated institutions/school. Check the
corresponding box for your answer.

Checklist YES NO

Title I need to have my research title checked

I cannot identify the dependent and independent variables by just
looking at my title
I am not sure of the scientific name of my plant sample
Aim and objectives I think the aim and objectives does not support the research
question
Hypothesis I stated the hypothesis/es in the null form?
I do not know the statistical analysis to test hypotheses

Research design I am not sure of the research design that I will use in my study

Methodology I don’t have the procedure to go about with my experiment

I don’t know how to follow the steps given in the procedure
I am not familiar with the chemicals to be used in the experiment
I am not aware of the safety measures to be done when conducting
the experiment
I need professional guidance when conducting the experiment
I don’t know how to use the equipment needed in my
experimentation
I don’t have the skills in performing the experiment
I need suggestions in order to improve my study
I want to know further about my study
I need assistance in formulating the different treatments
I need help in evaluating the result of my study
Statistical Tool I need to be assisted in gathering data
I need help in my statistical tool
