Brief summary of the Programme (Significance of the program, probable areas covered
potential for employment, higher studies etc.)

This minor is an interdisciplinary program that aims to equip students with the foundational
knowledge and practical skills needed to develop and deploy AI solutions. AI has become a
ubiquitous technology that has the potential to revolutionize every industry, from healthcare to
finance, transportation to education, and beyond. Hence, this program has sufficiently great
significance for B.Tech students as it will enable them to stay competitive in the job market and
be at the forefront of technological advancements.

The program will cover various areas of AI, including machine learning, deep learning, natural
language processing, computer vision, Applied AI and intelligent agents. Students will learn how
to use programming languages such as Python and Matlab to implement AI algorithms, as well
as tools such as TensorFlow, Keras, and PyTorch. They will also learn how to handle big data,
data preprocessing, and data visualization.

The potential for employment is vast for students who complete this minor program. The AI field
is booming, with rising demand for professionals in roles like data scientists, machine learning
engineers, and AI project managers. Graduates find opportunities at tech giants, startups, and
research institutions, as AI's rapid progress continues to impact daily life. The global ML
industry is set to grow at a 38.8% CAGR from 2022 to 2029, with a 22% increase in ML
engineer employment between 2020 and 2030. As the largest AI segment, the ML market is
expected to soar from almost 140 billion U.S. dollars to nearly two trillion U.S. dollars by 2030.
Recently, businesses are increasingly eager to incorporate ML into their products, creating ample
opportunities for enthusiasts in this field.

Furthermore, students who complete this minor program will have the opportunity to pursue
higher studies in AI-related fields such as computer science, data science, robotics, and artificial
intelligence. It also equips the students to engage in AI research, a dynamic field with the
potential to address critical global challenges.

This minor programme on AI and ML is aligned with Govt. of India’s vision of ‘Make AI in
India’ and ‘Make AI work for India’.

In essence, the AI & ML minor program offers a deep understanding of AI and ML mathematics,
along with modern algorithms for practical engineering use. Students gain hands-on experience
in real engineering applications, opening numerous opportunities for AI & ML enthusiasts.
