An icecream shop claims that 82% of their costumers prefer choco ice

cream. To test the claim, a random sample of 60 icecream customers are

selected at random and ask what they prefer. If 45 of the 60 customers
said they prefer to eat at choco ice cream, what will conclusion do we
draw at 0.05 level of significance?
Null hypothesis: p = 0.82
Alternative hypothesis: p ≠ 0.82

Note: if po = 0.83, what is qo? Answer: 1 – 0.83 = 0.17

Previous research showed that the average height of the female students of a certain university is 1.65 meters with a
standard deviation of 0.15 meters. In order to verify this, researchers chose a random sample of 121 female students
at the said university, and the average height obtained is 1.58 meters. What is the value of the test statistic?

x̅ = 1.58 (𝑠𝑎𝑚𝑝𝑙𝑒 𝑚𝑒𝑎𝑛) 𝜎 = 0.15 (𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑑𝑎𝑟𝑑 𝑑𝑒𝑣𝑖𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛)

𝜇 = 1.65 (𝑝𝑜𝑝𝑢𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑚𝑒𝑎𝑛) n = 121 (sample size)

x̅− 𝜇 1.58 – 1.65

𝜎 = 0.15 = -5.13
√𝑛 √121

A random sample of 225 nails produced by a manufacturing company is gathered. The engineer specified that the
nails must have a mean length of 8 cm and a standard deviation of 0.04 cm. the average length of the nails in the
sample is 8.055 cm. Test the claim using 0.01 level of significance.

t-statistics: 20.6

x̅− 𝜇 8.055 – 8
Solution: 𝜎 = 0.04 = 20.6
√𝑛 √225

Regression analysis was applied between sales (y) and advertising (x) across all the branches of a major national
corporation. The following regression function was obtained, y = 5000 + 7.25x. If the advertising budgets of two
branches of the corporation differ by 30,000, then what will be the predicted difference in their sales?

*Assume one office has advertising budget = k and other k + 30000

*Predicted sales when advertising budget K = 5000 + 7.25k
*Predicted sales budget K = 30000 of advertising = 5000 + 7.25(k + 30000)
predicted difference in their sales = 5000 + 7.25(k + 30000) - { 5000 + 7.25k}
= 7.25 * 30000
= 217500
predicted difference in their sales = 217500
