1. What do you understand by examination?
Ans – Examination is a tool to assess the achievement of an individual or a group in a particular
field of study.

2. What is evaluation?
Ans - Evaluation is a more comprehensive technique of assessing the student’s growth and
development in the field of education. It should be comprehensive and continuous.

3. What is written examination?


Ans –In written examination, the students are required to write down the answers and the
ability of the students in the field of writing is also tested.

4. What is CCE system?


Ans – Continuous and Comprehensive Education (CCE) is a system which regularly assesses a
student’s performance throughout the year, and not just at the end of the term.

1. Explain the purpose of conducting examination.
Ans – The purpose of conducting exanimation is to measure the scholastic achievement of
students and their proficiency in the subject matter by conducting at periodic intervals.
2. What is the modern term for examination?
Ans – The modern term for examination is evaluation. Evaluation is a new technical term
which is much more comprehensive concept of measurement as compared to conventional
examination as it also takes into account the changes in one’s personality.

3. Discuss the focal point of examination in the olden days.


Ans – In the olden days, the focal point of examination was the subject matter. It is a means by
which proficiency of a student is measured in any field of activity of learning or activity.

4. How is evaluation different from examination?

Ans – Evaluation is different from examination as it is much more comprehensive concept of


measurement as compared to conventional examination. It is a broader approach as it takes
into account the changes in one’s personality. It measures knowledge in subject matter,
achievements, attitude, interests, ideals, ways of thinking, work habit and personal
adaptability unlike examination, which assess only the achievement of an individual or group
in a particular field of study.
5. What is internal examination?

Ans – When the teachers of the educational institution teach, set the question paper, conduct
the examination and evaluate the answer sheets of their students whom they teach, it is called
internal examination.

6. Discuss the term external examination.

Ans – When an outside authority like a board of Examination of the state or university sets the
question papers, conducts the examination and evaluates the answer sheets of the students, it
is called external examination.

7. Explain non-written examination and also mention how it is different from written
examination.

Ans – In a non-written examination, the examiner asks questions and students have to give
answer orally like taking an interview. It is also known as oral test. It is different from written
examination because the answers are given orally and are not required to write down the
answers.

8. What is formative approach to evaluation?

Ans – Formative approach to evaluation is a technique that helps at validating the aims or
goals of instruction and also tries to better the standards of instruction. This is sought through
identification and then rectification of the problems in the instructional process. It allows the
teacher to keep an eye on learning of the students and improve his teaching methods from
the qualitative feedbacks he/she gets from the students. This technique allows the students to
gain insight into their strengths and weaknesses areas that are to be improved. It helps the
teachers to identify the problem areas and help the struggling students to overcome them.

Formative approach is an ongoing process and is often referred to as internal


method of evaluation.

9. What is summative approach to education?

Ans – Summative approach to evaluation is a cumulative technique as it is performed at the


end of the semester or any instructional unit to see how well a trainee or a student has been
able to imbibe the instruction. It is so called as it summarizes the learning of the student at the
end of the training programme. It focus is on the outcome as it checks if students have
achieved what the goal of the training programme is, which is why it is called as external
evaluation technique.

1. Explain four functions of evaluation.

Ans – The four functions of evaluation are

(i). Determines the present status of the student.

(ii). It motivates the students for better learning.

(iii). It gives incentives to students for hard work.

(iv). It predicts the future achievement of the students.

2. Differentiate between internal and external examination.

Ans – Internal examination is a type of examination in which the teachers of the educational
institution teach, sets the question paper, conduct the examination and evaluate the answer
sheets of their students whom they teach whereas when an outside authority like a Board of
Examination of the state or university sets the question papers, conducts the examination and
evaluates the answer sheets of the students, it is called external examination.

The aim of internal examination is to measure the student’s progress in different classes
and at different levels while the aim of external examination is to find out the level of
achievement obtained by students and to decide whether the students is capable to be
promoted to the next level of learning.

Examinations are conducted weekly, monthly, quarterly and half yearly in the schools
for the students in internal examination while external examination are also called board
examination or public examination or university examination.

3. Explain Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) in detail.


Ans – Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) regularly assesses a student’s overall
performance throughout the year and not just the end of the term. Comprehensive means all
round development of a child’s personality. The mental growth of the child can be understood
as a child is assessed not only in terms of his/her participation in other activities. It is
systematic determination of a subject merit, worth and significance, using certain criteria
governed by a set of standards. it can assist an organisation to assess any aim realizable
concept or proposal or any alternative and helps in decision making .in this system ,students
become more active and follow school based internal assessment. Student’s achievement is
measured by testing and through feedback given by the teachers.
A good and identifiable feature of CCE is that its academic year is divided into two
terms. First term starts from April to September and the second term from October to March.
According to this system, a student performs various school based assessment and the
student’s score grades will depend on his/her assignments and extra curricular activities. The
grading system is:
A1 is for 9.1-10.0,
A2 is for 8.1-9.0
B1 is for 7.1-8.0
B2 is for 6.1-7.0
C1 is for 5.1-6.0
C2 is for 4.1-5.0
D is for 3.1- 4.0
E1 is for 2.1- 3.0
E2 is for 1.1-2.0
