Gurugram-based 'Ekam Nyay Foundation' has prepared a report
on cases of murder of husbands by wives, suicide due to false
allegations and domestic violence. 306 cases of murder of
husbands by wives have been registered in 2023. The
organization says that the number of actual incidents may be
higher than this.

New Delhi : In the country, wives are becoming enemies of
their husbands' lives. Gurugram-based organization 'Ekam
Nyay Foundation' has prepared an important document of
cases of murder of husbands by their wives, suicide of men due
to false allegations, cruelty and domestic violence. This
research is based on the incidents reported in the media, and
Ekam Nyay Foundation says that the number of actual incidents
is much higher than this. The reason behind this is the removal
of adultery from the category of crime. In the year 2018, the
Supreme Court abolished Section 497 of the Indian Penal
Code, since then its importance has also ended.

What was the law that the Supreme Court removed
? In 2018, the Supreme Court of India removed adultery from
the category of crime by abolishing Section 497 of the Indian
Penal Code. The Supreme Court had called it an old and
patriarchal law and said that it violates the autonomy and
dignity of women. However, now adultery seems to be the
biggest reason for the exploitation and murder of husbands,
where wives conspire with their lovers to commit heinous
crimes, and it is also causing suicide of many married men.
This Gurugram company prepared the report
Gurugram-based organization 'Ekam Nyay Foundation' has
prepared an important report on cases of murder of husbands
by their wives, false allegations, cruelty and suicide of men due
to domestic violence. This research is based on the incidents
reported in the media. Ekam Nyay Foundation says that the
number of actual incidents is much higher than this.
The report documents 306 cases of murders of husbands by
wives or female partners in India in 2023. Of these, 213 cases
involved husbands being murdered by their wives or their

lovers. The murders were mostly due to reasons such as the
husband objecting to extramarital affairs, catching his wife red-
handed, or trying to stop extramarital affairs, and other major
reasons include financial disputes, domestic quarrels and
suspicion between the couple.
Ekam Nyay Foundation has documented many gruesome
murders where husbands were cut into pieces, poisoned,
stabbed, strangled or beaten to death by multiple people. In
many such cases, the wives were not caught initially because
they had destroyed all evidence or misled the police and the
public by presenting the murders of the husbands as suicides.
The maximum age of the victims in all these cases was 75
years and the minimum was 18 years.

The report also states that although some of these cases have
been extremely gruesome, such murders have never received
the attention of the mainstream media, government and the
general public, or have not been considered important to talk
about. The silence of the media and government on such
serious cases and the ignorance of the general public about
these crimes committed by wives creates a perception in
society that only men are violent.
Different cases highlighted in the report
The report also documented 517 cases of male suicide, where
mental cruelty, false allegations, wife's extramarital affair, and
domestic violence were found to be the major reasons. The
study recorded 235 suicides due to mental cruelty, 47 due to
adultery, 45 due to false allegations, and 22 due to domestic
violence. Apart from this, 168 suicides due to suspicion,
abandonment, cheating, or financial disputes were also
included.

Talking to the media, Ekam Nyay Foundation founder Deepika
Narayan Bhardwaj said that through Ekam Nyay Foundation,
our effort is to highlight the sufferings and problems faced by
men and their families due to legal and social neglect in the
society. This research report also tries to fill the gap in the data
that can establish that today men are also victims of violence
and abuse at the hands of women and the government of our
country needs to make laws on the basis of gender neutrality to
provide relief and justice to such suffering men and their
families.
Adultery by wives, and violence by female partners can have a
serious impact on any man, and men are the silent victims of it.

There is unrest in the society due to misuse of laws, the biggest
victims of which are men today. A lot of men are committing
suicide in India because of this. The top leaders, MLAs and
MPs of our country should pay attention to this because men
are also citizens of this country and their rights should also be
protected by the law.

What do the NCRB figures say?
According to the NCRB, 1,22,724 men committed suicide in
2022, while 48,172 women did so. The number of married men
who committed suicide in 2022 was 82,000. The most common
reason for male suicide was family problems, which took the
lives of 38,904 men. 5,891 men committed suicide due to
marital problems.

Know about Ekam Nyay Foundation
Ekam Nyay Foundation was established in 2024, and it is an
NGO that is helping men in distress and their families. This
organization is being led by Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj, an
independent journalist, documentary filmmaker and well-known
social worker of the country. Deepika ji has been working on
men's issues for more than a decade and has emerged as a
strong voice for the victimized men and their families. She has
produced the famous documentary 'Martyrs of Marriage' which
is based on the misuse of dowry laws. Deepika Narayan
Bhardwaj has also produced the famous documentary 'India's
Sons' based on men trapped in false rape cases. Both the films
are available on Jio Cinema.
Ekam Nyay Foundation works to spread awareness on men's
issues, provide counselling and legal guidance, and undertake
research projects. The organisation also intervenes in cases of
suicides, false accusations and helps families fight for justice.
