1. Overview
Rigaku proposes to provide a complete single crystal x-ray diffraction system for small molecule data collection and structural
determination. This device can generate high-intensity X-rays (31kW/mm2) by the combination with the confocal mirror., a
Rigaku partial- , 3-axis goniometer, a curved image plate area detector, and all the accessories and peripherals required to fully
integrate the system.

Features
(1) High brightness x-ray generator
The RA-Micro 7HFM tabletop rotating anode X-ray generator achieving 31 kW/mm2 brilliance.
(2) Oscillation photograph method
The blind area can be greatly decreased by measuring the oscillation photograph in the vicinity of =50°.
(3) Large measurement range
460 mm x 256 mm curved imaging plate: In a one image capture the angular range of 2-theta 
is -60 to 144 degrees
(tangential direction) providing coverage of 204 degrees.
(4) High speed data reading
Installing IP is one piece. To shorten duty time, the high-speed reading method is adopted. ( 1.5 times compared with
conventional ratio)
(5) It corresponds to three readout modes
It corresponds to three modes of 100×100 μm, 100×150 μm and 200×200 μm. As for 200×200 μm mode,
high-speed readout is possible (26sec/ 1frame). A small sample of the lattice can greatly shorten the measurement
time by using 200×200 μm mode.
(6) Large dynamic range and low level noise.
Device is compliant with a linear dynamic range of 1 x 106. A dual PMT system gives the Rigaku R-AXIS
RAPID II the largest dynamic range available of any detector. A noise level of <1 X-ray photon/ADU with a
sensitivity of 1 X-ray photon/pixel (CuK ) ensures that reflections will be accurately measured and weak reflections
will have the best possible S/N.
(7) Automatic measurement and data analysis
All processes from the measurement to data processing were automated.
(8) Two absorption correction methods
The absorption correction by empirical method or numerical method is possible.
(9) The target corresponding dual wavelength
The target material can be easily changed without leak of the vacuum.
(10) The mirror corresponding dual wavelength
The mirror can be easily switched by using the rotational mechanism.

8.2. Installation requirements

The requirements for the power supply of this instrument are shown as follows. The requirements for the power supply
depend on the configuration. A step-down transformer and stabilized power supply are needed if the power including the
fluctuation supplied at the installation site is higher than the required specifications.

Component Phase Voltage Current Power Frequency Grounding

Grounding resistance
X-ray generator 3-phase AC 200 V ± 10 12A [15 A]*1 4.0 kVA 50/60 Hz±1
less than 100
Grounding resistance

less than 100
Enclosure
1-phase AC 100 V ± 10% 2A 5 A 0.2kVA 50/60 Hz±1
(Optional)

The sensed current of the circuit breaker box should be 30 mA or higher.

The wall socket should be grounded.
*1: Bracketed values under ‘Current’ are recommended fuse capacities.

8.2.1. Surge and high frequency noise

Power surge and/or high frequency noise can cause malfunctioning of the instrument. If there are other instruments
that cause a power surge or high frequency noise, the power supply for the system should be isolated from them.

8.2.2. Grounding
Grounding D 100
Connecting more than two instruments to ground together can induce noise and malfunctioning of the
instruments. They should be grounded separately

12
8.3. Cooling water

-
(6) Chloride ions Cl 10 ppm or less
(7) Sulfate ions SO42- 50 ppm or less
(8) Other No contamination by bog, moss, sand, wood chips or metal fragments.

Please note that there is a possibility that the tube and CCD may corrode when any additives are used.

The use of tap water may result in algae growth and occlusion within the X-ray tube.
To avoid the need to change the cooling water frequently, it is recommended to use distilled water instead of tap water.

10 ˚C to 25 ˚C
(2) ±5˚C change during the operation. (15˚C±5˚C to 20˚C±5˚C)
Less than 10˚C change within a month.
*The data obtained from the system can be affected by fluctuations in the room temperature. Air conditioning
is required for precise data collection.

13
8.4.2. Magnetic field
(1) Do not place any magnetic objects which may affect the CRT image of the computer close to the system.

a) Flammable and corrosive gases
b) Dust
c) Salt
(2) Avoid direct sunlight
(3) No other heat source next to the system

8.4.4. Environmental measures

It is recommended that the system is used in a clean room. If no clean room is available, the system should be
placed in a separate room where users can change their footwear at the entrance.

8.4.5. Humidity

(1) Less than 70% R.H (No dew formation)

(2) Less than 10% R.H change within a month
(3) Adequate ventilation
*A rapid change of humidity and temperature may shorten the lifetime of the instrument.

8.4.6. Vibration
No physical vibration sensed by human body

8.4.7. Others
Other environmental requirements such as dust and corrosive gas are pursuant to those for conventional
electronic devices.

8.5. Installation location

8.5.1. Room size
(1) Size :5 ×4 ×2 height or large.
The back panel of the main body must be at least 1.0m away from the wall.
