Units Affected: Kalmar Heavy Terminal Tractors fitted with Dana RTE14822 transmission. Produced from 2019 to
February 2023 and prior to serial number GBEA207049. These transmissions could be subject to premature failure of the
bearing on the low gear shaft. The model number of the affected units are shown below, these details can be found on the
transmission serial plate.

Background: This bulletin addresses an internal problem identified with the transmission. The low clutch gear is installed
onto the low gear shaft using roller bearings. Due to the duty cycle of the transmission, there is a possibility that the roller
bearing in the low clutch gear fails. The cage holding the rollers in place can collapse and metal debris is found in the
sump.
In most applications first gear is not highly used, this means that the roller bearings are not loaded. The first clutch
bearings are only loaded when the first clutch is closed. When the bearing is unloaded this can lead to the rollers slipping
instead of rolling. The slipping of the rollers leads to damage of the rollers, raceways and cages.
Solution: The design of the low gear shaft assembly has been updated and is now fitted with tapered bearings that are
pre-loaded, this improves the roller to raceway contact. When a TE14 8 speed transmission is sent to a service centre for
a repair activity, the low clutch group will be removed and replaced with the new design.

Identification of Failure: Transmission failure can be identified in two ways:
● During preventative maintenance excessive amounts of metal debris can be found in oil from the sump.
● Total loss of drive from the transmission and showing error codes for low pressure on first and/or FWD
clutch.

Corrective action: Once identified, an individual salesforce case should be created for each unit. Product Support will
instruct on the best cause of action relating to each transmission.
To ensure the best possible support, the TT division has secured transmissions and torque convertors for the project,
however this is limited. The below process flow illustrates how to report and manage replacement/rework.
Salesforce provides a logged communication function between Product Support and Services. When dealing with the
local Dana agent it is the responsibility of the FL to provide updates on the progress of repair.
Please Note: When first communicating with the Dana agent it is important that the Kalmar FL/Dealer highlights the
requirements outlined in this bulletin if seeking warranty requests. The Dana SB is attached to this document for
reference.
Product Support involvement is not required on machines outside of the warranty period unless advice is needed on
policy.
TT Product support will endeavour to support dealing with all parties where needed
Details of the repair options - units in warranty:
● Return unit back to Dana factory requesting repair under warranty
○ Remove the transmission and converter and prepare for shipping back to Dana
○ Request Return Goods Authorisation label from product support. Ship transmission back to OEM.
○ Upon receipt Dana will inspect the unit and advise on if the repair is covered by warranty . If warranty is
accepted Dana will repair the unit free of charge. If warranty is denied, Dana will quote for the repair .
○ Once the repair is complete Dana will ship the transmission and converter back to their original location.
○
● Return complete unit to a Dana authorised service centre
When contacting the authorised Dana service centre, REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY Must be requested. If not,
the repair will be deemed as a commercial repair and liable to be charged. The decision regarding warranty is
made by Dana central and not the local service centre.
○ Remove transmission and converter and ship to local Dana service centre
○ Local FL / Dealer provides full vehicle details: Operating hours, In service date, Failure date and failure
symptoms and request repair under warranty.
○ Dana SC contacts Dana PSS to get job number for inspection, Dana PSS verifies if unit is in warranty and
when OK provides job number for inspection to SC
○ Dana SC inspects unit and sends report to Dana PSS incl repair quote, Dana verifies report and in case
warranty is confirmed provides job number to Dana SC to repair unit and invoice costs to Dana
○ Dana SC repairs units and when ready contacts Local OEM, dealer / user to pick up units.

RTE14822-100 has been upgraded therefore reverts to the Dana standard warranty terms
Note (B) Policy: Machines outside of the stated warranty period can still be claimed in certain circumstances where Dana
warranty policy can be applied. This would need to be pre-approved by Kalmar Product Support and Dana.

Update low clutch RTE14 8 speed with tapered clutch gear bearings
Problem description:
Due to the duty cycle of the transmission, there's a possibility the roller bearings in the low clutch gear
fails. The cage holding the cylindrical rollers in place fails and metal debris is found in the sump.
Affected population:
All TE14 8speed transmissions prior to serial number GBEA207049.

Repair strategy:
When a TE14 8speed transmission enters the workshop for a repair activity, the low clutch group will be
removed and replaced with group PN 010440415000.
