Section A (Objectives)
Q1. Fill in the blanks with appropriate words:
(5m)
1. Gas / Gaseous
2. Volume
3. Evaporation
4. Hard
5. Alum
Q2. State whether the given statements are true or false.
(5m)
1. True
2. False
3. True
4. True
5. False
Q3. Match the Column I with Column II.
(5m)
Column I Column II
1. Sedimentation b. Settling of heavier
components at bottom
2. Sugar e. Soluble
3. Diamond d. Hard
4. Separating bran from flour a. Sieving
5. Handpicking c. Separating larger size
impurities
For separating sand from the mixture, we can sieve the mixture.
Black gram (urad) and husk can be separated by the method of
winnowing.
2. Rough surface: Materials which have uneven surface or ridges can
be termed as a rough surface, e.g., coal.
Smooth surface: Materials which are plain and have an even surface
are termed as a smooth surface, e.g., marble.
3. Sea water contains many salts mixed in it. When sea water is
allowed to stand in shallow pits, water gets heated by sunlight and
slowly turns into water vapour, through evaporation. In few days’
water is evaporated completely leaving behind solid salts. Common
salt is obtained from mixture of salts by further purification.
4. The substances which dissolves in water are called soluble
substances. For example: Salt, sugar, milk, etc. The substances
which do not dissolve in water are called insoluble substances. For
example: Chalk powder, sand, stone, etc. The property of substance
due to which it dissolves in water is called solubility.
Section D (Case Based Questions)
Q8. Read the given information and answer the questions given
below. (8m)
I. Objective type questions:
1. (b) coconut oil
2. (d) Immiscible
3. (b) Water
4. (b) Lighter
II. Answer the following questions.
1. when coin falls in water wood goes up so displaced volume
decreases and coin has high density so it's volume is low and it
doesn't displace liquid that much.
2. Distillation. In order to recover both salt as well as water from salt
water mixture the process of distillation is used.
3. Those object through which light can pass easily are called
transparent objects e.g. water, glass. The object which do not allow
the light to pass through are called opaque object e.g. wood, stone.
4. Evaporation is a process of conversion of liquid into a gaseous
state.
For example, Drying wet clothes.
