HOMEWORK 3
This is an individual homework assignment (i.e., you must work on your own).
This homework assignment is due Nov 4th, 2024 by 6:00 p.m. (PLEASE NOTE THE
TIME! All references to time are according to US Central Time.) Your solutions
must be typed, and the pdf file must be submitted through e-learning (if you have
multiple files such as appendices, they must be merged with the main text, and one
file must submitted.)
You will not have a chance to overwrite your homework submission. Please be
careful to upload the latest version of your work. Any submission through e-mail to
overwrite a wrong document, which has already been submitted on e-learning, will
not be accepted. Please read the late submission policy in the syllabus.
You should present your solutions step by step. Computer generated outputs such
as charts, R outputs must be copied into the text file. Your homework solution
must include a cover page with the following minimum information: First name, last

In an attempt to assess total daily travel taxes in various cities, the Global
Business Travel Association conducted a study of daily travel taxes on lodging,
rental car, and meals. The data contained in the file TravelTax.xls are consistent
with the findings of that study for business travel to Chicago. Assume the
population standard deviation is known to be $8.50 and develop a 95% confidence
interval of the population mean total daily travel taxes for Chicago.
Suppose that a cable television company would like to estimate the proportion p of
households in Orlando who own two or more television sets. The company has polled
100 households in Orlando and has found that 70 of the 100 households own two or
more television sets. Find a 95% two-sided confidence interval for the proportion
of households in Orlando who own two or more television sets?
