Step 3: Write your message. Before you write the message, you must decide to whom you will
send the postcard. Then you will write a message from Sal to that person from your location.
1. Decide to whom you will be writing the message to for one of the characters’
back in Euclid, Ohio
2. Write a draft of your message on lined paper. Be sure to include:
a. 3 interesting facts you researched
b. 2 story facts from Sal’s visit to your assigned location
c. Correct letter format including date, greeting, body, closing, and
signature
d. Correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation
e. Write an address on the right-side of the back of the postcard. Make up
an appropriate address but make sure you send it to a character back in
Euclid Ohio.
Example: August 15, 2009
Dear Dad,
Gram, Gramps and I are here in the windy city. Did you know Chicago is one of the largest cities in our country?
I would love to visit the Sears Tower, one of the tallest buildings in the good old U.S.A., but the trees keep saying
rush, rush, hurry, hurry. Gramps says we need to barrel on out of Ill a no way and into Wisconsin.
The land here is flat and long like Ohio. Oh how I miss my ByBanks. Gram and I tippy toed into the huge jing-
bang Lake Michigan. Our pond looks so piddly next to it. Oh well, I still love my little lake. Gram and I splashed
around a bit and now we are heading for Wisconsin Dells.
