When people travel, they often send postcards to their family and friends telling
about their journey. For this project, you will create a postcard representing a
place Sal visited and then write a message from her to another character from the
novel. Creating the postcard will be a way of telling a mini-story of Walk Two

Moons. The message will give a part of the plot and the picture will show the
location you chose.

Below is a list of places that Sal and her grandparents stopped along their way to Lewiston,

Step 2: Design your postcard. When you design your postcard, you must design both the front
and back. See the example below.
Front:
1. Draw your picture neatly on the front of your postcard and color it. The picture
must be drawn. It cannot be photocopied or printed from a computer.
2. Name your location on the front of the postcard. Make your lettering neat,
colorful, and interesting.
3. Decide if you would like to add a graphic. A simple line, border, symbol, etc. can
add a lot to your postcard.

Back:
1. In the upper left-hand corner, tell a fact about your picture/location in a
complete sentence.
2. Draw a line down the middle of the postcard to separate the message (left side)
from the address side (right side).
3. Draw 4 horizontal lines on the address side to write the address.
4. Draw a stamp in the space where the stamp should go.

Step 3: Write your message. Before you write the message, you must decide to whom you will
send the postcard. Then you will write a message from Sal to that person from your location.
1. Decide to whom you will be writing the message to for one of the characters’
back in Euclid, Ohio
2. Write a draft of your message on lined paper. Be sure to include:
a. 3 interesting facts you researched
b. 2 story facts from Sal’s visit to your assigned location
c. Correct letter format including date, greeting, body, closing, and
signature
d. Correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation
e. Write an address on the right-side of the back of the postcard. Make up
an appropriate address but make sure you send it to a character back in
Euclid Ohio.

Dear Dad,

Gram, Gramps and I are here in the windy city. Did you know Chicago is one of the largest cities in our country?
I would love to visit the Sears Tower, one of the tallest buildings in the good old U.S.A., but the trees keep saying
rush, rush, hurry, hurry. Gramps says we need to barrel on out of Ill a no way and into Wisconsin.
The land here is flat and long like Ohio. Oh how I miss my ByBanks. Gram and I tippy toed into the huge jing-
bang Lake Michigan. Our pond looks so piddly next to it. Oh well, I still love my little lake. Gram and I splashed
around a bit and now we are heading for Wisconsin Dells.
