Ratio:
The ratio between two quantities is the quotient obtained by dividing the first quantity by the

second. For example, the ratio between 3 and 12 is 4 and the ratio between 12 and 3 is 1. Ratio
is generally indicated by the sign ":", Thus, 12:3 indicates the ratio of 12 to 3. The first term of a
ratio is called antecedent and the second term is called consequent.
Proportion:
Proportion is the equality of ratios, thus,
The first and last term is a proportion are called the extremes; the second and third, are called
the means. The product of the extremes is equal to the product of the means. Thus,
