Everything hurts. When I open my eyes, I can see only darkness. I do not

remember anything and my mind is aching. It’s like a pounding migraine, rattling

my skull, and I have no memory of where I am or what is happening.

My back is laying against a cold, concrete wall and my hands are blue as ice.

I cannot feel my legs, everything is numb. Suddenly, a blinding, white light blurs

my vision and I am staring at a girl, who must be at least 16. She is sitting on the

floor. She has dirty blond hair and bruises covering her thin body. The skin

beneath her forest-green eyes, are black as coal. Her body is covered with a white

t-shirt and white pants that are two sizes too big.

All at once, she shatters before me, leaving painful shards of glass piercing

my skin. Standing in the place of the girl, is a tall, brown-haired boy with beautiful

brown eyes. He comes toward me with such grace, but the closer he gets the

more fear I can see in his eyes. He is mumbling something that sounds like, “what

did I just get myself into.” As he approaches, the lights go red and an ear-piercing

alarm goes off. Now, the boy is running at me.

“Can you stand?” The boy asks, breathing heavily.

I blink, “No.” That singular word claws my throat as it escapes. I need

water.

“I should not have done this, why would I do this?!” He whispers frantically

to himself. “Okay, on three I want you to try to stand up.”

I shake my head.

“One, two, three.” The boy pulls me up off the concrete ground. A wave of aching pain

shoots up my body. I cry out as my vision starts to blur. Suddenly, everything goes dark.

Lucas
I knew this was a bad idea. I told myself I was done with helping them, but I

guess when lives are on the line you do what you must do. I scoped out my

surroundings. I am standing in the dark woodland near the edge of a two-story

building with a heavily guarded entrance. Two guards stand at each corner of the

structure and security cameras line the walls. I was told that I would need to

infiltrate the basement where a girl is being held.

“Beautiful night, isn’t it?” the guard said to the other guard.
“Indeed, it is.” I interrupted as I rounded the corner. The guards whipped

their heads around violently and pulled their guns out of their holsters.

“Hands where I can see them!” Yelled the guard, pointing the gun in my

direction.

“Don’t shoot! I just want to have a friendly chat.” I say, moving closer ever

so slightly. Each guard carried a shot gun and a taser. This was not going to be

easy.

“Stop moving or I’m going to shoot.” Announced the other guard. He was a

heftier fellow with thinning brown hair. His chubby fore-finger twitched at the

trigger as I moved my head faintly to the left and my eyes peered just past his

enormous shoulders. Unconsciously, the large guard glanced backward. In an

instant, I pulled the handgun that was hidden in my back pocket and shot the

large guard in the chest. He fell like a colossal oak tree onto the hard pavement. It

took a moment for the smaller guard to register what had just occurred, but that

was all the time I needed to shoot him directly in the skull.

I pounce onto the large guard and search his limp body in a pool of deep,

warm blood. I immediately grab his gun, walkie-talkie, and building key pass

before running towards the ominous steel doors. Frantically, I tap the key pass
onto a white, blinking key pad. A rush of cool air blows my messy, dark hair as the

metal doors slide open.

I was given a map of where the girl was being held, but in this moment my

brain threw away all previous information. The entrance doors opened to a huge

hallway with at least 100 different rooms. The lights in the building were

uncomfortably bright. Slowly, I walk through the hall, squinting into each room.

The building is completely empty. Finally, I reach a door marked “stairs”, fling it

open and dash down the steps.

“She is in room 126” I mumble to myself. The staircase is dark and my

heavy black boots thunder with each step. I check all the room numbers until I

find 126. There was no window on this door like there was on the others upstairs.

I bust down the door with the hard heel of my foot. The door opens to reveal a

small space with a double sided, glass window and a girl staring directly at me.

The room comprises of a wide variety of monitors and scientific equipment. An

entrance to the cell is located is to the right of the window. It has thick metal rods

fastening it closed and I notice the only way to open it is with a specific code.

Powerful boots echo behind me and my heart quickens it pace. I look around the

petite room to see if there is anything to break the glass with and find myself
looking at a metal chair. I pick it up and throw it at the window, glass shatters

everywhere. Sitting on the floor is a girl with yellow-blonde hair cut to her fragile

shoulders and deep set, green eyes staring back at me. As I’m walking toward her

an alarm goes off. I’m running toward her now, her green eyes go wide.

Brynn

I swim in and out of consciousness for what feels like hours. I can feel the

brown eyed boy’s strong arms wrapped around my body, carrying me through the

twisting halls of the building. The echoing sounds are overwhelming. The constant

beeping of an alarm ring through my ears along with thunderous footsteps

clattering behind us. The boy swears underneath his breath. He turns down

another hallway, pushes through large steel double doors and starts sprinting. He

abruptly stops at another set of large doors and gently sets my frail body onto the

hard, floor tile. My bones cry as they settle to the floor.

“Ok, can you hear me?” the boy whispers, crouching down to meet my

eyes. His head tilts in concern as my chapped lips fail to respond.

“This next part is going to be tough, ok? I going to go out these doors first

and distract them and I need you to run as fast as you possibly can into the woods

beyond the fence.” It takes all my flittering strength to lift my heavy head and

nod.

Frantically, the boy reaches into his pocket and pulls out a keycard. He

carefully takes my hand into his own and places the keycard into my palm.

“This is for the fence. Just go as far into the woods as you can and hide, I’ll

find you when it’s safe.” He stands and leans over to help pull me to my feet. My

stick legs sway as feeling rushes to my toes.

His stable arms are still holding onto me when he quietly says, “are you

sure you’re gonna be ok?”

“Yes” I mouth, the sound barely escaping my hoarse throat. I reach for the

wall and rest my weight against it. The wavy, brown-haired boy gives me one last

questioning look before rushing out the heavy, metal doors into the unknown. I

wait a few precious seconds to find the power to move my weak legs, then

stumble towards the large exit. Finally, I’m outside. The burning sun beats down

onto my pale skin as gun shots sound in the distance. I will my stone-like feet to

move across the everlasting field in a slow run. My eyes are focused on the chain-
link fence only a few meters ahead of me. There are a few different exit and

entrance doors spread out across the fence. I reach for the nearest opening.

Exhausted from the journey through the field, I grasp the tall fence. A sharp

scream emerges in the distance. My hands are trembling as they scan the key

pass into a small black key pad. The doorway clicks open and I hobble outside the

fence. As I make my way into the woods my body begins to shut down. I can hear

my rapid heartbeat pulsing against my chest as my lungs turn on fire. My sore legs

betray me and I fall over the exposed root of a tall oak tree. My breathing

shortens into small painful bursts against the muddy ground and the world starts

to fade.

Lucas

I didn’t expect the blonde-haired girl to be so bruised and weak. Her tiny

body is leaned against the concrete wall fighting to keep herself upright.

WHAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN NOW

- boy goes out to distract guards and fights (shooting them)

- one guard ends up zapping and burning him with there stun stick

- he climbs the fence and finds the girl collapsed in the woods

- he carries her sneakily 3 miles though the woods with helicopters searching overhead

- they reach an abandoned shack which is the meet up point and he contacts his employer

- the girl doesn’t wake up for 2 days

over all: ??

the girl developed a very contagious disease (it doesn’t affect her but it kills others she comes into

contact with that are not immune)

If they contract the disease their skin starts to shrivel and their eyes turn black with blood

The disease runs in her blood as a mutation and it releases from her breath, so you have to be in direct

contact with her

the story is set in the future – dystopian world where governments are at war with one another

she was a child in o a facility where governments take in abandoned children. She was adopted by the

leader of the government (she did it to show that she cares about society/as a PR stunt).

Because of overpopulation every child at a certain age (16) must be tested to see if they are worthy to

society (physically capable, mentally strong, or money/status) if not, they are killed

Since the world is breaking she developed a mutated gene that causes this disease in her to spread. At

16. The government found out she had the disease or mutated gene from the testing and taking her

blood, etc.
Her breath killed the people who were testing her

Because her mother was the leader of the one government, and wants to use her as a symbol of love

and care for future generations, she sends her away to a convert scientific institute to cure her

“daughter”

One promising development is to isolate cells or tissues from the afflicted patient, repair a mutant gene

in the laboratory, and then transplant the repaired cells or tissues back into the patient.

the place she was “rescued” from was really trying to cure her disease because they don’t want her to

kill people or die herself from others and the mom needs a cure because she was exposed to the disease

and is slowly dying

the medicine she was given throughout her medical procedures gave her some memory loss as a side

effect and memories slowing come back throughout the book

the boy was working for the bad guys who want to spread the disease around the world and use her as a

weapon to target people but he doesn’t know that (they don’t know that the mother is already dying.

he is luckily immune

But the bad guys assumed he’d be dead in the meet up spot, but he isn’t. They don’t think much of it

because people she had killed before have slowly died. He is left at the shack to die.

They take the girl away to a “safe” place, which is their headquarters (they were wearing hassmat suits)

The boy is the missing puzzle piece to finding a cure since he is immune

Some other people also happen to somehow be immune.

The boy thinks he is working for good people who are saving the girl and helping cure her illness but

they are using her to weaponize a deadly disease to spread to populations and governments that they

don’t agree with

The boy is working for these people because they promised they would give his family money/status

because they are poor and his younger siblings wont pass their tests and will die.

The government offered him a deal because he didn’t pass his test (he’s poor and overpopulation is so

bad that they’ve been killing anyone who live under a certain income). He was randomly chosen.

The bad government weaponizes her through gas bombs and gas rays (they isolate the gene and put the

substance into the weapons somehow)

They don’t tell the soldiers on the warfront what is in the gas bombs the soliders assume they are

normal

The boy gets taken by the good government (they saw him on the security tapes) and they force him to

tell them where she is. The leader (since she is dying) creates a task force to get her daughter back. He

offers to help if they bring his family to safety and ensure they will not have to take the test. The task

force is made to understand that they might die for this cause.

Once the bad government realizes they are also dying from the disease after coming into contact with

her through masks/suits they try to kill her but it doesn’t work.

The break into the headquarters starts just after they try to kill her

They get her out and start to take her back but she doesn’t want to keep killing people so…

*she also has accelerated healing abilities
