8. How can you calculate the efficiency of transformer by knowing its losses.

Also derive the condition for maximum efficiency.


9. Discuss the application of transformers in transmission and distribution of

electrical power.
10. In 25 kVA, 2000/200 V transformer, the iron losses and CU losses are 350
W and 400 W respectively.
(a) Calculate the efficiency at full load and 0.8 pf lagging. (sol: 96.38%)
(b) Also determine maximum efficiency and load corresponding to max.
efficiency ( sol: 97.1 % and 23.38 kVA)
11.A 11000/230V, 150kVA, 50 Hz single phase transformer has core loss of
1.4kW and full load copper loss of 1.6kW. Determine kVA loading for max
efficiency and value of maximum efficiency at unity power factor.
12.A 25kVA, 11000/400 V, 50 Hz single phase transformer has 80 turns on
secondary, Calculate
(a) Primary and secondary currents
(b) Number of primary turns
(c) Maximum flux
13.A 1000 VA transformer has core loss of 15W and copper loss at half load of
5W. Calculate the full load efficiency at 0.9 pf lagging.
14.A transformer with 800 primary turns and 200 secondary turns is supplied
with a 100 V ac supply. Calculate the secondary voltage and the volts/turns.
15.A 3300/250 V, 50 Hz, 1-phase transformer is built on a core having a cross
sectional area of 125cm2 and 70 turns on the low voltage winding. Calculate
(a) The value of max flux density
(b) Number of turns on the high voltage winding.
16.A 25kVA, 2000/500 V, 50 Hz single phase transformer has maximum value
of flux in the core as 10 mWb. Calculate number of primary and secondary
turns.
