1.Introduction
In contemporary society, effective waste management has emerged as a critical
issue due to the increasing volume of waste generated by households, industries,
and commercial establishments. The conventional methods of waste handling
and disposal are proving inadequate in addressing the complexities and scale of
modern waste streams. Improper disposal and management of waste result in
environmental pollution, including soil contamination, water pollution, and air
pollution. It is critical to develop a solution that can help solve these challenges
effectively.
2. Our Solutions
To address the critical challenges faced in waste management, our solution
involves the usage of a Trash Picker and Sorter Robot. This innovative
technology is designed to transform the way waste is collected, sorted, and
processed, thereby improving overall efficiency and sustainability in waste
management systems.
3.Project Ideas
Our Trash Picker and Sorter robot is designed to help manage waste by
automating the process of collecting and sorting different types of trash. Here's
a basic overview of how it works:
Detection and Identification:
Sensors and Cameras: The robot is equipped with various sensors, such
as ultrasonic, and colour sensors, to detect and identify different types of
trash and Machine learning algorithms to analyse light intensity and data
to classify items into categories like recyclables, organic waste, or non-
recyclables.
Navigation:
Mobility System: The robot uses wheels to navigate through its
environment. It may rely on ultrasonic sensors to avoid and stop when a
trash has been detected, move around efficiently and reach different areas
of the waste pile or bin.
Picking Mechanism:
Robotic Arm or Gripper: The robot is typically equipped with a robotic
arm or gripper designed to pick up trash. The arm can extend, pivot, and
adjust to grasp different types of waste.
Sorting Mechanism:
Robotic Arm and Gripper: Once the trash is picked up, the robotic arm
then sorts the waste into different bins or containers based on its
classification. This sorting is being done using colour sensor to gather and
analyse the type of the trash and move the robotic arm towards the bin
using predetermined measurements.

Social Impact
1. Improved Public Health and Hygiene:
Reduction in Manual Labor: By automating the process of waste
handling, these robots can reduce the need for human workers to handle
waste directly, which lowers the risk of exposure to harmful substances
and reduces the spread of diseases. Automation can also lead to cost
savings in waste management by reducing the need for manual sorting
and labor costs.
Efficient Waste Management: More effective sorting can lead to better
management of hazardous materials and more efficient recycling,
contributing to cleaner public spaces and reduced pollution.
2. Environmental Benefits:
Enhanced Recycling Rates: Accurate sorting helps increase the amount
of waste that is recycled properly, reducing landfill use and encouraging
sustainable practices. This can lead to improved environmental health and
resource conservation.
Less Contamination: Our solution provides proper sorting which
minimizes contamination of recyclables with non-recyclable waste,
improving the quality and value of recycled materials.
Challenges Faced
Building the arm for a trash picker and sorter robot presents one of the most
challenging aspects of its design due to the need for exceptional precision and
adaptability. The robotic arm must be capable of handling a wide range of
objects with varying sizes, shapes, and weights, which requires a sophisticated
engineering approach.
