Title:
The effect of variation in process parameters on forces and surface quality
in turning of steel

Theory:
Turning is a machining process in which a thin layer of material is removed
by the use of a single-point cutting tool, used for the machining of
cylindrical parts. In any machining process, the study of forces involved in
the machining throws light on the ease of machining a part. These forces are
defined by several parameters, such as the cutting speed, the feed, the depth
of cut, the coolant used, etc. However, forces are not the only factor that
helps us determine the parameters to be selected. The surface finish of the
part also determines the parameters to be selected, which is why the effect
of process parameters on both forces and surface roughness should be
looked into.

Objective:

• To study the effect of variation in cutting speed on the forces and

surface quality
• To study the effect of variation in feed on the forces and surface
quality
• To study the effect of variation in depth of cut on the forces and
surface quality
• To study the effect of variation in cutting fluid on the forces and
surface quality
