4.2 Safety Of Plant

1. Generally, all trees shall be carefully being taken care during lifting, transporting, unloading and
planting to avoid trunk injuries and damages. The cage machine is used to lift and unloading the
plants. The trunk should be wrapped with Hessian cloth or equivalent materials in order to keep
moist and prevent the trunk from damage. The canopy shall be wrapped or covered with netting to
protect from damaged while in transit.

2. The branches shall be trimmed/pruned (30% of the canopy density) in 2 or 3 weeks before deliver
without affected the requirement. Any trimming and pruning before and after planting, the
contractor shall apply the wound dressing process. This process will avoid:
- trees damages/injuries
- water loss
- shocked when planting
- easy for transportation

3. Plant Protection During Transportation.

The main objective is to ensure minimal damage to planting materials during transportation. In order
to prevent damages, the trunk shall be properly wrapped and secured to the base of transporting
vehicle by guying rope to prevent movement. The lorry will be covered with netting to avoid severe
movement and injury during transportation.

4. Plant Protection During Unloading

a. Upon reaching to the planting location, the protection cover of plants shall be removed
and inspected for damages.

b. Inspection on the trunk shall be carried out to determine if there are any damages.

c. Slightly damaged planting materials would be treated with healing compound wound
treatment.

d. Severely damaged planting materials will be rejected.

e. A cage machine shall be used for unloading.

5. Watering: - to keep the root ball moist during transportation and storage.

6. Wrapped : - root ball wrapped with gunnysack to keep moist

7. Trees shall be transported to site and unloaded at site nursery or direct to planting areas (Transit
Nursery).

8. Transit Nursery: - Temporary area to receive plant materials before planting and inspect by the
Consultant. The setting up of the transit nursery to made with proper structure and materials.

9. It will be located near affected planting area.

5.0 PLANTING OPERATION

1. All planting procedure will follow as per specification. Consultant shall be informed at least 2 days prior to the
commencement work.

2. Setting out of planting will be based on approved shop drawing. The size timber peg must be 50 x 50 x 450
mm. To get the advice and inspection from the landscaping consultant in order to ensure the planting location
is according to the shop drawing.

5.1 Planting Hole Preparation

1. Planting holes shall be excavated 1M min as per specification and to call consultant for inspection of
the planting hole’s size.

a) Big trees : 1m x 1m x 1m

2. Hole shall be dug wider not deeper than the existing root ball.

3. Excavation work shall be done by using backhoe and areas not accessible by machinery shall be done
manually. All excavated soil and debris shall be cart away before back filling with approved soil
mixture.

4. Ponding test need to be carried out before refill the approved soil mixture (50% topsoil, 30% organic
matter and 20% sand). The water must be dried out after 24 hours, if the water is not dried, the sub
soil drain needs to be installed and to be discharged to the nearest drain.

5.2 Planting Method

1. Pre-planting

• Container grown plants should be removed prior to planting.

• Compacted roots, branches and all dead leaves shall be pruned and applied wound dressing.

2. Planting of Trees

• The plant shall be set vertically in the center of the planting hole at a level that ensure that the
finished soil level is same level as surrounding area.

• The organic fertilizer (Chicken dung) and soil mix shall be stamped at the base and around root ball
and compacted firmly.

• The burlap from the top and side root ball shall be removed carefully. Any injured/broken roots shall
be cut and wound dressing shall be applied.

• Fertilizer (CIRP) to be applied close to the root ball at 100gm/plant.

• The entire planting hole shall be backfilled with soil mixture.

• Firm the soil and irrigate so that the soils settle around the root ball.

• All trees staked with clear rubber hose (8mm and above) with wire cable inside after planting. The
stake will be use only to avoid root from being shaking by the wind. Staking detail as per
Method drawing (specification).

• Mulching the tree base with approved source.

3. Planting on Slope

• The small crane (2 tones) or cage machine will be used for loading the plants. The Jut rope will be
used to hang the plants and to tie at the root ball and center of the trunk. The trunk shall be
wrapped with gunny sack to avoid damages. The trees shall be staked after planting in order to
avoid the trees from fall down as per consultant specification.

• Step of planting as above.

Note: Avoid waterlogged area and created runoff surface.

Strong wind area needs staking.

6.0 QUALITY OF WORKS

In order to ensure the trees are well planting the following shall be considered during the works process.

1. The root ball should neither be planted too high or too deep. If too high, the upper roots will be exposed
by soil erosion. If too deep, the bark may rot.

2. Staking and guying is done to prevent the stump from toppling over. A collar is tied around the trunk and
can be attached to a stave or several stakes, or secures with guy rope to pegs on the round.

3. Protect disturbed areas again runoff from above site by intercepting the area with diversion channels and
diverted runoff around the works.

4. Stabilize I backfill disturbed area quickly, once planting activities have finished. All adjustment of level is
depending on the site condition.

5. Get the advice and inspection from the landscaping consultant in order to ensure the works done
accordingly to the requirement.

7.0 ENVIROMENT CONTROL MEASURE

We undertaking the following mitigation measures as when necessary to control and minimize soil erosion during
process of planting activities: -

1. Protect disturbed areas against runoff from above site by intercepting the area with diversion channels
and diverted runoff around the works.
2. Retain sediment on the site by providing sand beg if necessary.
3. Stabilize/backfill disturbed area quickly, once transplanting activities have finished.
4. Inspect control measures at regular interval particularly after heavy rainfall.
5. Plastic or tarpaulin will be used to cover slope/areas or excess earth as a temporary measure if necessary.

8.0 SAFETY

All the works shall be followed with the client’s Safety Regulation especially on the following Job Safety analysis:

1. Standing supervision by the Supervisor.

2. Clear the area from obstruction.
3. Put proper barricade and safety sign.
4. Proper access for excavation machine.
5. Put plastic sheet to protect slope collapsed after slope completed.

two months. Fertilizer (organic fertilizer – Super Green) shall be evenly spreader around the root area and
lightly cultivated.

Chemical spray shall be carried only for curative.
