MANUAL STRUCTURE
This instruction manual contains operational procedures and safety precautions. Operators
and service technicians should read the manual before running a test or performing calibration
procedures. Atlas strongly recommends reading this manual and cannot be held responsible
for results if the operator uses the Atlas instrument in a manner that is inconsistent with these
instructions.
Please read this manual thoroughly before attempting to install or operate the Atlas instrument.
Observe all warnings and precautions in this manual to ensure safe operation.
1.0 Safety and Precautions: This chapter describes the safety warning symbols
used throughout the manual. It also contains a list of safety precautions to follow
when operating the Weather-Ometer®.
2.0 Instrument Installation: This chapter details the facility and environmental
requirements that must be present when installing the instrument. It also
explains how to connect water, air, and power to the instrument and how to
assemble and install the xenon lamp. Read this section thoroughly before
attempting instrument installation. Be sure to note the exterior panel
removal procedure in section 2.3.1 and the requirement for removing the
panel locking screws atop the instrument.
3.0 Components and Controls: This section describes the location and function
of the user controls and other components in the Weather-Ometer®.
4.0 Operation: This section explains how to start the instrument and how to set
all controls for running a test program. The procedures for programming and
naming a custom test are included as well as general troubleshooting instructions.
5.0 Calibration: This section describes how to conduct the Irradiance Calibration,
as well as Temperature Circuit Check procedures to determine if the temperature
monitoring circuits require calibration.
6.0 Maintenance: This section describes how to conduct inspection and clean-
ing procedures for maintaining the instrument in optimal condition.

Water vapor is exhausted from all Weather-Ometers during the course of running a
test. It must be taken into account to prevent condensation and to prevent any
condensed water from dripping from the facility exhaust duct back into the instrument
exhaust duct. Insulate facility exhaust ducts above the instrument as required.
The amount of exhausted water vapor depends on the humidity set points of the test
selected.
The humidity set point, the Chamber Temperature set point, and the length of time that

settings on the pages. Plus you will become familiar with touchscreen navigation. Familiarity with
this section will greatly facilitate your use of the touchscreen while conducting the highly-detailed

responses
1) RESPONSE: Touch the drop-down menu box and select Warning or Shutdown for each
parameter (or Disabled, to prevent operation of the alarm). “Warning” provides only a text
warning on the Monitor page when the parameter exceeds the tolerance range. “Shutdown”
will cause the test program to stop when the parameter exceeds the tolerance range.
2) TOLERANCE: Allows setting of the positive and negative range within which the parameter
value is considered normal. When a parameter exceeds the tolerance range, the instrument
will respond with a warning message or shutdown (per the RESPONSE selection). Tolerances
and Timeout (delay) must be carefully chosen to prevent nuisance alarms while still providing
runaway temperature and humidity protection for test specimens. Please note that the Alarms
do not become active until 10 minutes after a test program phase begins. This prevents false
alarm triggering during the parameter stabilization period.

SUBCYCLES
Subcycles must be set in conformance with the two rules indicated on the Subcycles setup
menu.
1) Start phase <= Stop phase.
A subcycle Start phase must be a phase number that is lower than or equal to the Stop
phase number of the subcycle. In a three-phase test program, a subcycle may be set to
repeat phase 1, 2 or 3 (with the Start and Stop phases being the same numbers: 1 - 1,
2 - 2 or 3 - 3), or multiple phases may be repeated as a group 1 - 2, 1 - 3, or 2 - 3. Invalid
entries for the Start - Stop phases would be, respectively, 3 - 2, 2 - 1, etc.
NOTE: Rule 2 applies only when more than one subcycle is programmed and is
intended to prevent invalid subcycle overlapping.
2) Stop phase of subcycle N < Start phase of subcycle N+1.
When using multiple subcycles, the Stop phase number of a subcycle must be lower
than the Start phase number of the next subcycle. For a three-phase test program, valid
multiple subcycles would be, Start phase - Stop phase: 1 - 1, 2 - 2, 3 - 3, or 1 - 1, 2 - 3, or
1 - 2, 3 - 3. Invalid entries would be: 1 - 2, 2 - 2 or 1 - 2, 2 - 3, etc.
i NOTE
Be sure to touch the Save button (shown above) after setting up the desired Subcycles.
