------------------------------------- Introduction ---------------------------------
Before we mine the ‘Asteroids’, we need to know what is
an ‘Asteroid’.
When a star is formed the leftovers form into ‘Planets’
and ‘Asteroids’. These ‘Asteroids’ contain trash to
treasure.
“Mining these is a revenue-risky task.”
Although we have mined on earth, the need for our
development has increased. So we got an alternative
idea to mine on ‘Asteroids’.
As the production of resources on earth is slowly coming
to an end. The development of humanity would be hard in
the coming years.
Even though, mining on ‘Asteroids’ costs a lot of money
and time. It is a great way to collect the resources we
need and use them for development. Hence, it is essential
to mine ‘Asteroids’ for resources.

What Do Asteroids Contain?
As asteroids contain from ‘Trash to Treasure’. They
may contain from rock to gold. Obtaining these can fulfil
our needs. These materials are valuable on earth, as they
are rare on earth and common on asteroids.
These are valuable because they are used in making of
jewellery, devices and etcetera. Which are sold at a high
rate on earth.
Asteroids even contain water in frozen form, which is
plenty on earth in saline form.
We may even find new elements, which are not yet
found. And new discoveries can be done to improve
mining on asteroids.
Asteroids contain many materials like – iron, nickel,
platinum, iridium, gold, clay, palladium, silicate,
water and etcetera. Some of these are really valuable, as
they are used in making essential goods.

Asteroids contain these materials and many other
valuable materials too.
Which are really important to us, in many ways. Like in
development of humanity and etcetera.
Mining them and bringing them back to earth is known
as Asteroid mining.
If these are brought to earth, they can be revenue making
as they are valuable and precious to us.
10
Where Are Asteroids
Located ?
Asteroids in our solar system are mainly located between
the planets – Mars and Jupiter. The group of asteroids
which are located between these planets is commonly
known as Asteroid belt.
And the group of asteroids beyond the orbital belt of
Neptune is known as Kuiper belt. Asteroid belt is
closer to us, than Kuiper belt.
11
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
As, Asteroid belt is a bit closer to us. It is convenient
for us to reach there and mine.
Although, Kuiper belt is more massive and has a large
collection of asteroids. It is too far away from us, which
makes the travelling harder and costlier.
As, Asteroid belt is way closer than Kuiper belt. We
can mine the asteroids which are in the Asteroid belt.
This makes travelling easier and cheaper. As our
destination the Asteroid belt is closer than Kuiper belt.
12
Why To Mine Asteroids?
It is really important to mine asteroids for resources, as
resources on earth are about to finish.
It’ll be hard for humanity to continue their development
in future.
Hence we need an alternative way to get resources.
Although, we have an alternative way to produce
electricity like – Solar energy, Hydroelectricity and
etcetera.
Those produce electricity and not resources. And even
these ‘alternative sources for electricity’ need basic
and important resources to produce electricity.
That’s why we need resources for development and to
meet our basic needs.
As, resources on earth are slowly coming to an end we
need an alternative solution. So that we can reach our
basic needs for our development in future and can
continue to explore the unknown parts of the universe.
By Mining Asteroids.
13
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Mining asteroids can be costly but profits and resources
we get from an asteroid can be more profitable.
We can get many resources we need and can process the
raw materials we get from asteroids into useful products
we need.
And we can also use the resources from asteroids to
make space ships and rocket fuel.
This can make traveling in space more efficient and
easier.
And new discoveries can be done to improve mining on
asteroids.
Asteroids contain many materials like – iron, nickel,
platinum, iridium, gold, clay, palladium, silicate,
water and etcetera.
Some of these are really valuable, as they are used in
making essential goods.
14
How To Mine Asteroids?
To mine asteroids it is risky to send humans onto
asteroids, and for sending them we need a space ship
which has an atmosphere similar to that of earth.
Like we need – Proper oxygen supply, Basic necessities
like food and water, Gravity, and necessary tools for
mining.
Having these in a space ship can cost a lot. And is risky
as humans go to space.
Hence, it is better to do the mining by using Artificial
Intelligence rather than doing it manually.
In ‘Project RAME’ we have five phases.
Phase One – Developing and launching of the mining
device.
Phase Two – Traveling and reaching the asteroid.
Phase Three – Mining and returning back.
Phase Four – Refuelling of the rocket.
Phase Five – Reaching the earth.
15
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Phase One
In phase one, we do developing and launching of the
mining device. For the device to travel in space we need
the body of the mining device to be symmetrical.
Without the symmetricity of the device, the mining
device cannot move freely in the open space.
And the device made by us, is vertically symmetric.
16
------------------------------------------------------------------
Mainly, our mining device contains following shapes.
Cone Cylinder Sphere
Arranging these in a symmetric form we get this.
As the main body is ready, now let’s concentrate on the
working details and know its functions.
17
------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the anatomy of our mining device.
18
------------------------------------------------------------------
(i) Electric Propeller – The use of electric propeller done
in this design, because electric
propeller is more efficient in outer
space.
(ii) Solar Panels – Solar panels are used to generate
power for the propeller and for
mining.
(iii) Waste Material Exhaust – This particular device is
used for separating the
materials from the
useless, while mining.
(iv) Lights and Cameras – these are used for getting the
clear view of the mining site.
(v) Main Driller – It is used for mining.
(vi) Legs – Legs give support for the machine to stand
on the asteroid.
19
------------------------------------------------------------------
Now, after developing the mining machine. We have to
send it to space.
As, we are sending more than one machine (explained in
phase three) it is necessary to pack them well in a rocket.
The packing can be done as shown below.
20
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Phase Two
In phase two we have traveling of the machine and
reaching the asteroid. The outer space has many
obstacles that our machine has to cross.
Our machine can be hit by unpredicted comets and other
asteroids and it can change it’s direction (which is not
planed) as sun’s gravity acts on it.
The most important thing to be done before sending our
machine, is to plan perfectly.
21
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Without proper plan and plan execution the mission has
maximal chances of failing.
So before launching, perfect plan should be done.
It is to measure the distance, check the fuel quality and
quantity, selecting the asteroid to mine and finally
knowing the obstacles.
Now, coming to reaching and landing on the selected
asteroid.
We need to match up with the speed of the asteroid,
which is nearly 80,000 kilometres per hour to 90,000
kilometres per hour.
Thanks to our modern technology, rockets can go up to
5,00,000 kilometres per hour.
This is really good for our mission as we need to reach
the asteroid to mine it.
Next, our devices get ejected from the main rocket and
land on the asteroid.
22
------------------------------------------------------------------
(the size of the asteroid, the device and the main rocket is
not accurate and size may differ)
This is how the devices get ejected from the main rocket
and reach the asteroid in mission RAME
23
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Phase Three
In phase three we have mining and returning back of
the device.
As, we know the functions of the device (mentioned in
phase one). Now let’s find out how they work.
24
------------------------------------------------------------------
In these, (i) used for travelling from the main rocket to
the asteroid.
Next, (ii) is used to generate power for the propeller and
driller.
(iii) is used to separate waste materials from the useful
materials from the mined ore.
(iv) is used to get a clear view of the mining site on the
asteroid.
(v) is used to mine the materials on the asteroid and
collect them.
Finally, (vi) are used to give the main body to stand and
grab the asteroid. This is how each component in the
device works and functions. Now, As we learnt how they
work let’s see it in a pictured form.
We need more than one device so that we can mine the
asteroid right-round and collect the resources.
25
------------------------------------------------------------------
26
----------------------------------------------------------------
After mining, returning back of the device from the
asteroid is done.
Before ‘returning back’ concept, we need to know
‘where does the main rocket stay?’
After releasing the devices, the rocket too lands on the
particular asteroid.
After mining process both the rocket and the devices
leave the asteroid. Later on the devices enter the rocket
and pack themselves the same way they were, before
landing on the asteroid. (as mentioned in page 18).
After packing they start their journey to the earth.
27
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Phase Four
In phase four we have refuelling of the rocket.
As, our rocket has started it’s journey towards the earth
the fuel requirements for the rocket to reach us is
impossible.
As it needs to go a long distance and come back to the
earth.
Hence we need a refuelling system to refuel the rocket.
So that it can reach us.
For refuelling, we need to send another rocket which
contains the fuel.
(The fuel used in the main rocket is rocket fuel and
not electric because rocket fuel helps us move a lot
more distance compared to electric).
Which can refill the main rocket’s fuel tank, so that it
can reach the earth.
The refuelling of the main rocket is done similar to the
refuelling of an aeroplane in mid-air.
28
------------------------------------------------------------------
29
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Phase Five
In phase five the rocket reaches back to the earth,
where we collect the mined and filtered ores.
The minerals and new elements we collect from the
asteroid may contain new diseases which can affect the
mankind really bad.
So, it is better to treat the ores, minerals and new
elements before testing them and using them.
And selling the materials we get from the asteroid to
public, can tremendously decrease the original market
value of the particular material.
Hence, it is better to sell the materials gradually to the
public so that the market value doesn’t fall.
And this can maintain the economy of the world and the
value of the goods.
Using the materials brought from the asteroid, we can
make many more devices for further mining.
And now, the mission RAME is fully completed.
30
Advantages
There are many advantages for asteroid mining.
Because of asteroid mining we can get resources of
humanity’s needs.
Asteroid mining helps humanity to develop.
It is an alternative source to collect resources as
resources on earth are about to complete.
And, many resources are used to make essential goods.
And we need them in large quantities.
Asteroid mining is an alternative source to collect
resources rather than traditional earth mining.
31
Disadvantages
Asteroid mining costs a lot of revenue and time which
are really valuable.
Asteroid mining is a lot more risker compared to
traditional earth mining.
As, it involves in sending costly equipment to the outer
space.
And even distributing asteroid minerals to the public can
collapse the market value of the particular mineral.
New diseases can affect the humanity which are brought
to earth from asteroids by ores.
