1. What are the main physical properties required for modeling and simulation in aspen hysys
3. What is the main difference between aspen hysys and aspen plus
Although Aspen Plus and Aspen Hysys can be used for same application in many industries, when you start a
new simulation, you can identify that Aspen Plus fits better for for fine chemistry, or all other nonpetro
processes, such as acids, pharma, etc, while Aspen Hysys has more features related to for petrochemical and
gas industry
4. What are the main transport properties required for modeling and simulation in aspen hysys
Diffusion coefficient
Thermal conductivities
Viscosities
5. How can we use aspen hysys to help us in the process of selecting the most appropriate Fluid
Packages (Thermodynamic Model)?
Process modeling is the development of a set of mathematical equations which describe the important parts of
the equipment and how it works, that allow us to predict the behavior of chemical process system.
7. What is the difference between process modeling and process simulation in chemical engineering?
In the field of chemical engineering, process modeling and simulation are two distinct but interconnected
concepts:
1. **Process Modeling**: This refers to the creation of a simplified representation of a system or process
using mathematical or conceptual tools³. Models are based on fundamental laws such as conservation
principles, transport phenomena, thermodynamics, and chemical reaction kinetics. They are used to understand
and predict the behavior of chemical processes under various conditions. The system components and
connections are represented as a process flow diagram⁴.
2. **Process Simulation**: This involves using a model to predict how a system will behave under certain
conditions. Simulations can be as simple as the mixing of two substances in a tank, or as complex as an entire
alumina refinery. The use of simulation has expanded due to the availability of high-speed computers and
software packages. Availability of solution techniques has further broadened the use of simulation.
A steady-state model would be able to predict the conditions at either Case A or Case B, but would not shed
any light on the intermediate conditions as the process transitions from A to B. A dynamic model, on the other
hand, will predict the entire trajectory of the process as it moves from Case A to Case B.
10. Mention (up to three) well-known simulation software used in the field of chemical engineering
In Aspen HYSYS, a hypothetical component is a component that does not exist in the available
thermodynamic database but can be defined by the user for specific simulation purposes. These components are
often used to represent idealized or theoretical substances that may not be included in the standard database.
